starfruit I believe is the single most profitable crop in the game

And while starfruit doesn't regrow, so long as you have the bus repaired you can go to the desert literally whenever and buy more seeds regardless of the season

ok. im also saving up jade for staircases so that i can go deep in the skull cavern later

Grow at least one of each, then use the seed maker to produce more.

I usually start out with Starfruit and keep growing them until I have filled the greenhouse with Ancient Fruit. Starfruit sells for more but you have to replant them unlike the Ancient Fruit which after reaching full growth will produce fruit once a week. So eventually in the long run, you actually make a bit more with Ancient Fruit. Here is a neat tool you can use: Stardew Profits[thorinair.github.io] :brownchicken:

I would do both. Half and half, then turn the ancient fruit into wine. Then process it in your house basement to an iridium star level wine. Sells for a lot!

I do starfruit until I have enough for polyculture and other quests then switch to ancient fruit because replanting starfruit becomes a bit of a pain.

In the greenhouse, star fruit is almost the same time / effort as ancient fruit. The only additional step is going to the desert to buy seeds.

When you pick star fruit, have the seeds selected on your action bar and they will be immediately planted as you pick the ripe star fruit. No additional effort in the greenhouse vs ancient fruit. It therefore makes no sense to plant a lower gold yielding crop such as ancient.

Ancient fruit outside of the greenhouse has the upper hand for time / effort due to automated collection

Ancient fruit is more profitable in the long run and requires less effort, you have to keep either buying more starfruit seeds or using fruits to make seeds while once you get the ancient fruit planted it keeps on producing fruit forever in your greenhouse.

dont forget that you get much more place to plant full year when you unlock the ginger iland farm

Aged starfruit wine. You have to be suuuper patient because aging takes two seasons but a plot of 48 (half used to make 48 seeds) reliably fills 80 casks and I net a million in a year with almost no effort.

Correct me if my math is wrong, but isn't Ancient Fruit more profitable than Starfruit?

Although Ancient Fruits take 28 days to grow, they regrow every 7 days. Their basic wine with 40% price buff sells for 2310g, that's 330g/crop/day

Starfruits take 13 days to grow, and their basic wine with 40% price buff is 3150g, minus 400g for seed cost it's 211.5g/crop/day

There are 15 days gap between their first yield, but with 118.5g/crop/day profit difference, Ancient Fruit would negate that 15-day profit loss within about 27 days.

Of course, this doesn't take Speed-Gro into account, and if it's a mass wine-aging factory, Starfruit would win anyway.

It is a little more profitable in the long run. But to be honest, it's not a huge difference. At least not according to the calculation tool I linked to in my post before this. I think mostly, it is easier because it doesn't require any effort once planted. With Starfruit you have to get new seeds and plant all over again. Ancient Fruit wine is fabulous, by the way! :brownchicken:

You've tried it? Man i wanna get my hands on a bottle myself. Then again going by the current gold price i doubt i could afford even a fraction of a bottle lol.

But in all seriousness as others have said start with both.

Personally i left one sprinkler open and planted any ancient fruit seed i got in there, while i used the rest of the space for starfruit or any cooking ingredients and quest crops i needed. I didn't sell any ancient fruit until i had enough to fill my whole greenhouse with them and then started from scratch filling my greenhouse up with only ancient fruit. I simply prefer going in there once every week and just harvest the whole field, even if i could make more profit with other crops.
