best things to do on day 1
what do you all think are the best things to do on the first day of a new game?

I'd say...
- forage
- check trash cans
- go buy some seeds
- cut down bushes for mixed seeds
- give george a leek

Ah, I usually plant my free parsnips and then I also go into town to buy a couple more of those seeds just in case those damn crows destroys one or two before I can harvest them. I usuallt spend the rest on potatoes. Then I start "cleaning" the farm and I also go hunting for something edible (like a leek) since you don't have much energy when starting out. George will simply have to wait :brownchicken:

Go straight to sleep, and wait until Day 2, to get the fishing rod quicker.

I usually chop down a few trees (need 50 wood for a chest), clear a small area for crops (I usually plant a potato, green bean, cauliflower in addition to the free parsnips).

Then I'll run around and look for forages, onions, meet some villagers for the Intro quest along the way, etc.

Then at the end of the day, if I'm out of energy, I might use the remainder of the day to clear weeds which consumes no energy and helps to open up paths better on the farm, etc.

Day 1? Play the game. Duh.
But if you are looking for like a speedrun, there's guide for that available on search.

ok, fair enough then.

For me, in that order:

1) Clean a small zone to plant seeds and craft a chest
2) Empty your money to buy other seeds
3) Search the garbage cans in hope of finding some stamina restoring item
4) Forage the whole map
5) Plant and water your crops
6) Gather wood to repair the beach bridge as soon as possible and up your skills.
7) When stamina is depleted, clear weeds until 1 AM

The following days are fishing to get money for the backpack upgrade before the mine opens.

In order of priority:
1) Clear area for planting.
2) Build a chest.
3) Buy all the potatoes I can.
4) Plant every seed I managed to get my hands on.
5) Cut down all the wood I can. With 300 you can repair the bridge in the beach, which will give access to corals and seashells which you can sell for money. I never got 350 wood (remember the chest) on day one, but I got close, and repairing the bridge on day two is pretty easy. That bridge is, aside from all those yummy yummy potato seeds, just about the best investment it is in your power to do in the first days of the game.
6) Forage. I favour collecting the spring onions, so I can restore some energy if I need or want to.
7) RNG bonus: find an artifact. If you find and donate one, you complete a mission which rewards you with 250 gold. That's a whole 5 potato seeds!!! Yum yum. It's honestly a real boost, and not too unlikely to happen.

If you go for spring festival strawberry farm strategy :
I would buy and plant parsnips on day 1 (besides the obligatory 1 green bean and 1 cauliflower for community center). Parsnips are ready on day 5 when you can go into the mines and they are good and cheap energy food which allows you to sell more fish (if you are the fishing type) and work harder in the mines. You can also sell parsnips on day 5 and get and plant potato seeds which are ready for harvest before festival on the 13th, so that you can sell all the potatoes on 12th and buy strawberries on 13th.
(If you start with potatoes on day 1, you get first harvest on the 7th and cannot use this revenue to buy and plant more potatoes since they won't be ready for 2nd harvest before the festival.)

I was going for the strawberry meta, but I went all in on potatoes and sold the parsnips. I am wondering what difference the plan you outlined can make. How many strawberry seeds did you manage to buy in the 13th? I managed 90.
Just for the record, what I did was gather money to buy more potatoes through the first week of the game, before the 7th. Selling the parsnips had a real impact in that, since they grow in 4 days. I also sold stuff from the beach to earn more money for more potatoes, and I think I grew some parsnips to further complement my income after the potato deadline. As you must have figured, I had 9k by the spring festival.

If you consider 2 harvests before the festival, you have 3 options :
- parsnips + parsnips : poor money multiplier 1.75 x 1.75 = ca 3.1
- parsnips + potatoes : for every 3 parsnips you get ca. 2 potatoe seeds and your initial cash multiplies with roughly 1.75 (parsnips) and 2 (potatoes) : 1,75 x 2 = 3.5
However since potatoes come second, you have a moderate number of potatoes to water.
- potatoes + parsnips : for every potatoe you sell you get 4 parsnip seeds. Money multiplier is the same (3.5), but the number of parsnip plants to water is much bigger and costs you more energy and time in the days before the festival.
- potatoes + potatoes would give the biggest money multiplier with moderate number of plants to water, but you cannot sell the second harvest before the festival, so it is not an option.

Main reason to start with parsnips and then go with potatoes is to keep the number of plants to water small and have the money in the pocket on the festival day.

  1. Use scythe to clear as much weed (not grass) as possible by afternoon
  2. Sell them to Robin and buy more seeds from Pierre
  3. Plant and water before 2am
