"useful" like harvest moon type useful (or more) which is what it should be right? please

If you mod look for "Cat Gifts" and/or "Pet Choice Perks". The former has the dog dig up goodies on your farmland randomly depending on your heart level, the latter gives you a foraging buff when you pet it. Cats bring gifts to your doorstep instead, but it's more likely to be junk and the perk is to fishing.

I would like more function/benefits to the dogs, cats, and horses in vanilla though. I think they're a nice feature, but I'm a stickler for fleshing things out. I.E something like the above mods for dogs and cats, something like the "horse upgrade" mod for the horse, more speed depending on heart level and when given treats.

i only play vanilla tho, no mods
