Royally screwed up and need a completely fresh install
Basically, I was trying to remove all my outdated mods once the 1.5 update dropped and I ended up deleting something important. Now, the game won't boot. I've tried everything to get a fresh install, from deleting the Appdata to the steamapps folder for the game. I would really like to know how to completely reset my game so Steam doesn't keep installing the borked version

Did you remember to remove the SMAPI command in the game's properties (the launch options)?
Otherwise, the game will be trying to start a program that's no longer there, and likely won't boot.
No, I do not believe I did. How would I do that?

right click game (ie.. stardew valley) in question in your steam library, click properties, under general tab, bottom of the window, copy and save that launch command for future use, then clear the command from steam, now it will launch stardew valley exe instead of smapi.

re add mods and launch command later when your ready to play with mods again, or dont and play a vanilla playthrough.

Have you tried simply asking Steam to verify the integrity of the game files?

If even a full reinstall didn't do anything, though, it's not likely to work.

Oh, does Steam not remove launch option commands when you uninstall and reinstall a game?

That's potentially very good information, I'll have to try to remember that.

As far as I know, it does not remove it.
