SMAPI 3.8.1 from Nexus not working

I've updated the game to the newest version and in doing so I needed an updated of the SMAPI from Nexus. I got the updated SMAPI and put it in the correct mods folder but when I go to run it from Nexus it says that I have the older version of the SMAPI and need to download the new one to play the game. Any suggestions??

try opening up the new smapi and installing it so it uninstalls the old one? then remove old smapi folder?

I dont think you run it from the mods folder. I always install directly. But I play on a mac so maybe pc is different.

mine isnt an install in the control panel, so its not directly installed on my computer as other programs would be... and when it runs its install, it installs directly into the game your using it for, ie.. into the games folder, then is added as a mod in the mod folder, i havent or dont know of any other way to install it.

i have done it manually by downloading, unpacking and running the install, or without doing anything by using vortex.

Thank you for your suggestions, I got it to work by removing the newest SMAPI and re-downloading it. Then going and removing the old one from both the mods folder and NEXUS page.
