Spoilers: Special Orders problems...
So I've started trying to complete special orders with this new board that's available. Got the first quest for ectoplasm. Took 5 days and 40+ ghost kills. Painful to say the least. Next quest was the prismatic jelly. Failed. Spent 6 days in a row pushing through 95-115 in the mines. About 2+ loops each day doing the bare minimum possible to get through the levels and making sure the slime I needed was not there.

The amount of effort expended on these two quests alone, one of which failed, was beyond ridiculous and certainly not worth a few thousand gold. I think I'll be skipping these quests going forward...

They aren't all that difficult. I got the ectoplasm the first day I attempted it, which I realize was really lucky. But I think the crafting recipes are generally worth it. Your call though for your own game.

Always have a Burglar's Ring, it's good and use a luck food item which increases the chance of the item dropping. For the Prismatic Slime, find a infested level with slime or with enemies as long as they spawn then restart by going to that level over & over. If you ran out of time, restart your day again and do it again, I know it would take hours, I found mine on level 14 infestation (Prismatic Slime spawn in any levels of The Mines.)

Yeah, they're generally not hard but they are insanely time-consuming.

Most of the time they're just not worth doing.

The reward isn't the 2k gold or whatever, typically, but the letter you get afterwards.

The prismatic slime one, at least, gives a crafting recipe to use in the mines. Dunno what the ghost one does.

I just did one for Gus, however, that SEEMS to have had no real reward... He gave me a mini-fridge instead of money, which I have no use for. And then I got a cutscene at the Saloon, with several people enjoying the omelette, but I got no reward from it... It was an easy challenge, but still. Meh.

Hmm... if some of the requests have special rewards, then someone would have to do them all (including the unrewarding ones) to figure out which are worth doing or not. Either that or spoil yourself on the wiki. The requests should at least hint at the side-benefit (such as Robin mentioning she might sell a new type of bed).

I don't have so much free time on my hands that I'm OK with compromising my gaming time (I like the game but I prefer doing what I want rather than what the NPCs want) just in case one of the requests has a secret reward.

I checked on the Wiki, and without spoilers, it seems like only 1 of the quests don't have any reward other than a cutscene and money: Gus's egg thing, which gives the mini fridge item, which saves you 3k I guess... So the "real" reward is 6k. But I have no real need for a mini-fridge, so... Lame.

There's also 3 that give items instead of recipes, but I haven't encountered the items in-game yet, so I'm not sure if there's another way to get them, or ONLY through this quest...

Hmm... I'm intrigued, but I might not care about many of the secret rewards.

Guess I'll do a few if they're convenient, and check the wiki out just to see what I could have gotten with the ones I really don't feel like doing.

They're typically crafting recipes or utility items. Like a smaller version of a large item, or a machine that gives you 1 of an item every day, or a new convenience item. Nothing you can't live without, but most seem handy.

Sounds potentially very good. If you know what the rewards are, you could target some of them and they might be very useful for what you're currently doing.

I'll try the fishing one, it's gotta be easy and lucrative.

I know the ectoplasm one gave me a recipe for a mini obelisk. Build two on your farm to teleport between them. The prismatic slime I failed so don't know on that one. I did one for Pierre for 25 gold vegetables which was easy because I was already growing wheat. Only got 2500g for that and no letter the next day...shrug.

dumb question but has anybody gotten through the one for Robin yet?
most of them seem to show some sort of progress in the quest but Robin's 450 hard wood doesn't even show up in my journal like the others have. i don't even know if there's a special place to put the stuff once you get it. (like the eggs, it says how many gathered/how many put into his fridge... that sort of thing)
also if you completed it already, with out cheating (item duplication, etc.), how long did it take you?
thanks for the heads up and info in advance!

I've done two board requests from Robin.

The first was the default 80 Hardwood one. The catch there is that she wants "fresh" Hardwood, so you have to collect it all in the allocated time period. You have to dump it in the woodstack next to her inside her house.

The second was to farm 1,000 pieces of Wood. She didn't want the wood, she just wanted to encourage deforestati- I mean, "resource gathering", so I didn't have to drop it off at her place.

I didn't know there was a 450 Hardwood request... obviously it would take forever if you did it 12 per day, so you'd have to plant a ton of Mahogany trees.

that slime one was a pain in the butt.

you can just keep resetting a day until you find one, took me about 7 days total going through the mines petty much all day until I passed out. it's kinda ridiculous atm.

... so the thing when they first put up the board... where she said "for example, i could use 450 hard wood to make a bed i'm working on..." or something along those lines... it was just that... an example? not an actual request even though you have to answer if you'd be willing to or not? i wasn't sure. these guys are pretty tough to read with out a straight up note in the journal to go by.
Pixel Peeper Dec 29, 2020 @ 2:20am
I don't remember her saying 450 specifically, but if she was talking about the bed she was planning, it was probably flavor text leading into the request for 80 Hardwood, yes, since getting her those 80 pieces causes her to finish the bed and start selling it at her shop. It was the first request that popped up on the board after she put it up, so I assumed it was standard.

If it's not a quest in your log, odds are it's not a real thing.

450 Hardwood is kind of silly anyway, given how slowly Mahogany trees grow (and they can't grow at all in winter).
