Is modding a valid reason to buy the game on PC?
I already own the game on Switch.I was wondering if mods can add a significant amount of new content granting a completely new experience

There's some pretty impactful mods out there. The most notorious is SVE,[www.nexusmods.com] which does add lot of stuff, and you might as well take a look at it if you're curious. I guess I'd advise you to do that with the SDV Nexus in general, check out what's being offered so you can make a more informed decision.

I mean, the cosmetic mods are pretty cool.

I use one called "Seasonal Villager Outfits", which randomly changes the NPC's outfits almost everyday to various outfits, depending on weather and season (and for festivals).

Such as Elliot, Penny, and Jodi (among others) at the Egg Festival:

------

For more practical mods, there's tons of them.
Depends how intensive you want them.
Myself, I try to restrain myself from using too many.

One of my top mods is "Automate", which can make things handier.

Such as with crab pots. By putting a chest on the east pier, along with a worm bin, and a bunch of adjacent crab pots in a row, the mod will take care of it for me. It'll store the bait from the worm bin in the chest, then moves the bait into the pots.
What the pots collect gets moved into the chest, and the process continues on it's own.

So every few days, I can just swing by and check my catches.

One of my best uses is with my furnaces and recycling machines. I put them all together, and put a chest next to them.
So when coming back from the mines late at night, I can dump the ores into the chest (along with some coal), and it'll take care of it for me.
Or dump trash from fishing, and it'll auto-feed the recycling machines for me.

And, if you want to keep it vanilla for a while (such as for your own story purposes), that's easy.
Just don't put a chest next to processors, crab pots, furnaces, etc.
Then you run/feed those machines same as vanilla.

Seasonal villager outfits is great. I use it too.
I never bothered with automate, but I am inclined to download it for my current farm.

I own both and I find that I play the PC version more because I can mod it.

I've gotten almost 1k hours out of the unmodded version. The modded version, however, can add new NPCs, locations, farm maps, tools, weapons, cutscenes, crops, shortcuts, etc.

I prefer not to use mods, but SV has some pretty decent ones. The game's cheap enough that many people buy the game twice, though - once to play on the go or in bed, and another time to mod on PC. (Or get the best of both worlds with a laptop, maybe?)

Stardew Valley Expanded also works with Ridgeside Village, which is ANOTHER massive new area, and all of them work together with content patcher which allows you to just throw an enormous amount of mods together that are actually quite compatible. WORTH

Do keep in mind that the game updated recently, so many mods might be broken.

I saw Ridgeside Village, which is apparently pretty new. SVE is already so big, I can't even fathom what using both together is like. I think more might not always be better, but it's at least pretty cool to have the option.

True, but per ConcernedApe in the December 21st post for the Stardew Valley 1.5 release:
Some prominent modders were given early access to 1.5 so that they could update their mods in time for release. If you play with mods that you can’t live without, check to see if they might already be updated!
Pretty awesome!
