It is not necessary in beginning but its nice to have when you want to ramp up the friendship. If you dont mind spoilers or hate looking to much at wiki then look up anything mod can also be nice. https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/541

Personally with any game I suggest playing vanilla for a while first to get your bearings before putting in even a single mod.

I would not recommend using that mod. Never! I had the best time running into npcs in unexpected locations. Their schedules aren't random, they're all scripted, once you've learnt them you'll always know where they are, kind of take away the fun and mystery. This is a very wholesome game, I would suggest not to use any mods/cheats that speed up any of the gaming experience :)

For first time experience I would recommend using seasonal outfits though! It's just really, really well made and the game's a bit more realistic that way, outwear for cold weather etc. Otherwise they're like cartoon character wearing the same clothes everyday even to the beach. (vanilla outfits also included in mod)

You should probably try playing through the game a bit without it first, and if it gets too frustrating, then go for it

I also kinda liked not knowing where they are 100% of the time. Idk if I would describe such a thing as core to the game's "fun and mystery", though it was kinda nice. But I got lazy and caved to the map locations, so I don't find it indispensable either. I second your seasonal outfits recommendation too.
However, I probably wouldn't bother with mods on my first time around. Possibly more out of inertia than anything else, I am kinda bad at doing mods, but I also don't think they're needed. Map locations sure aren't needed, you can get by just fine. There might be something to "getting your bearings without putting in a single mod".

i was worried about frustration, but i will try to endure, this game deserves it.

Frustration isn't a word I'd associate with SDV tbh, not at all. Well, except for the fishing minigame, that one can get difficult. Incidentally there are mods to remove it or make it easier, if you don't like it..

Yeah, first run without mods seems like a good idea, and the villagers aren't usually difficult to find if you've known them a while. That said, if I've got an awesome birthday gift all ready to go and it's getting late I usually cave and check the wiki.
