The OG Stardew Valley trailer...
Youtube recommended the trailer for the game from 2012 and I thought it'd be fun to check it out. What I found interesting was just how many changes were made that would've made the game pretty different, and I'm curious what people think.

What I've noticed...

- You can throw seeds down in a 3x3 area, to plant them faster. It'd be cool to see something like this implemented in the future, but the system we have now is fine.

- It looks like you originally couldn't move or have more than 1 barn and coop and silo.

- Interestingly, some of the weirder crops like bok choy were already in the game this early on... but strawberries were forage, rather than a crop.

- Duggies, the cute little moles in the mines, were already made this early on.

- The mines had treasure chests full of coins scattered amongst the rocks. Instead, we have crates and barrels that drop weapons and gems... I like the current version better.

- The mines had dirt floors, rather than rock, so bombs would toss up dirt tiles when they went off as well.

- The mines had a floor with a giant lake in it. Shame we never got this one.

- Slimes didn't have eyes, and weren't nearly as cute. I wonder if that means there was no slime hutch?

- Maru, and presumably the rest of her family, lived in a giant metal building with a radar attached. Looks completely different than the finished product, and might mean Demetrius was originally studying something else!

- Going based off of the wedding scene in the video, Shane used to wear a sports jersey rather than his Joja uniform. It'd be cool to see this brought back for some cutscenes, or after he stops working at Joja; he doesn't really mention any interest in gridball, so it's strange that his 10 heart scene is him going out of town for sports. It'd also just be nice to get him out of that Joja jacket...

- The town square used to have a small tree planted as its centerpiece; currently, the town square is empty, and just has a small design on the ground. This is likely a nod to the old Animal Crossing games, which had a tree planted that grew as you played the game.

- At one point, the farmer digs up a piece of paper... Was the "soggy newspaper" originally something you dug up? Were the Secret Notes originally in the game, and then replaced as library books? Or is this what the dwarven scrolls used to look like?

- It looks like you originally needed a crafting table for more things, such as bombs, rather than being able to make them on the fly.

- There's a crafting table option for "Lumber" which can be crafted with 1 wood. It's possible this was needed to build furniture, since the beta let you craft your own furniture rather than buying it from Robin! A shame this feature was removed.

- There's something on the crafting table called "Plant Armor". Is this something to protect crops from lightning or disease? Or was there an armor system, prior to the "boots are your armor" system we have now, and we crafted it ourselves?

Y'all can feel free to ignore this, I just thought it was interesting to see how far the game's come and what mechanics/features were changed!

Was that version made with the rpg maker?
Also, mad respect for sticking with all those ideas and perfecting them. Love the final product

One of the things I noticed was the “you succeeded” during crafting. Makes me wonder if there was a chance of failure during crafting leading to loss of materials. That would have been horrible, especially with those first precious bits of iridium.
