Stardew Valley keyboard interaction issue

I used SMAPI on my previous computer without issue. I made a set up on my new computer today, installing all the things I had before. Everything seems fine until I interact with the TV in the game.

Suddenly it's like my keyboard keys get remapped. I can't use letter keys anymore, some numbers don't work, esc acts like the windows key.

I have tried removing mods, reseting the computer - no change. I made sure I was on the latest version of SMAPI and all the mods I like to use are listed as compatible.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

UPDATE: For clarity, I did run the game before installing SMAPI to ensure the game created all it's needed files. After last night, I fully removed SMAPI -- and the same thing is happening. As soon as I have control in the game, the keyboard keys stop interacting properly.

I am going to uninstall the game and see if this corrects the issue. But, I would still love to know if anyone else has had this problem. I would love to still use mods if possible

Try to start the game and new savefiles without any mods first.

I don't have a controller equipped, but it is a laptop with an external keyboard and mouse equipped.

Update: I ensured Filter Keys was disabled.

I detached the external keyboard, but the same issue occurs even using the laptop keyboard. The other odd thing is that my mouse is no longer able to scroll.

Even after exiting the game, the issues remain. I have to restart to type again.

It's like the game is taking only the keys it uses and then disables everything else. I guess I am not playing Stardew on this set up, but I wish I had any idea what was causing this
