Hops are really useful for money making, and heres why (kinda)
I was looking for a somewhat nice income, and also a good XP for farming, and i remembered about Hops. The product itself isn't that profitable, but when you put then in kegs, you are ready for a good 12x value from it (if you're using normal quality ones).

Then, after remembering this, i started to compare with others crops from summer, such as blueberries and starfruits, which are top tier for money making. Here is some info that i want to share about what i searched so far.
Observation: Using only spots for each seed (10 hops and 10 blueberries, but 20 starfruits), with a level 0 farmer, no fertilizer, using 10 jars and kegs, counting the entire summer. Profit subtracts seed value from it.

Also, 3 important things to remember:
1- Starfruits are locked in the desert, meaning that you will need 42k gold to just unlock it, and 500 gold per ticket.
2- Hops growns on trellis, which means its impossible to walk through them.
3- I could be totally wrong, so if thats the case, i'l gladly accept help to edit this post.

So then, let me show you what i found

RAW

  • Blueberries: they generated around 6.6k, or 240g per day. After the initial 13 days, the harvest between a 4 days gap gives about 1.6k-2.0k gold, 4 harvest total. Profit its about 5.8k

  • Starfruits: they generated around 16.8k, or 600g per day. A harvest after a 13 days gap gives about 7.5k-9k gold, 2 harvest total. Profit its about 8k

  • Hops: they generated around 4.7k, or 170g per day. After the initial 11 days, the harvest between a 1 day gap gives about 250-310 gold, 17 harvest total. Profit its about 4.1k.

Tip: if you have a seed maker (you can get one by completing the "Dye Bundle"), you can turn hops into hop starter, which they sell for more money and a possibility to get a anciente seed. In avarage, a normal quality one (25g) will give you 2 seeds (30g each), resulting in around 10k. Only problem is that its not time viable.

JAR

  • Blueberries: they generated around 7.5k*, or 260g per day. After the initial 13 days, the jelly making between a 3 days gap gives 1.5k gold, 50-60 jellies in total . Profit its about 6.7k**
*9k, if you account the first days in Fall.
    **8.2k, same reason.
Tip: Since they generate 3 fruits per seed, one harvest is enough for 3 jellys. Its more eficient to sell the other ones raw, resulting in about 11k-12k profit

  • Starfruits: they generated around 31k, or 1100g per day. A harvest after 13 days, the jelly making between a 2-3 days gap gives 15k gold, 20 jellies total. Profit its about 23k

  • Hops: they generated around 7k, or 234g per day. After the initial 11 days, the pickle making between a 2-3 days gap gives 1k gold, 70 pickles in total. Profit its about 6.3k.
Tip: Since they generate faster than the pickle process, its more eficient to sell the other ones raw or to make seeds. Profit would be around 9k-12k. But again, not time viable

KEG

  • Blueberries: they generated around 3k, or 110g per day. After the initial 13 days, the wine making between a 7 days gap gives 1.5k gold, 20 wine in total . Profit its about 2.2k
Tip: Dont make blueberry wine, please.

  • Starfruits: they generated around 22.5k*, or 804g per day. A harvest after 13 days, the wine making between a 7 days gap gives 22.5k gold, 10-20 wine in total. Profit is about 18.5k**
*45k, if you account the first days in Fall
    **37k, same reason.

  • Hops: they generated around 42k, or 1500g per day. After the initial 11 days, the pale ale production between a 1-2 days gap gives 3k gold, 140 pale ale in total. Profit is about 41.4k.
Tip: Since they generate faster than the ale production, you could sell them when needed, but its far more advisable to storage them to later production, for about 9k more gold.

XP

  • Blueberries: Each harvested seed gives 10 XP, resulting in about 400 XP (4 harvests)
    (Enough for achieving level 2)

  • Starfruits: Each harvested seed gives 44 XP, resulting in about 880 XP (2 harvests)
    (Enough for achieving level 3)

  • Hops: Each harvested seed gives 6 XP, resulting in about 1020 XP (17 harvests)
(Enough for achieving level 3, and halfway to level 4)

    Conclusion

Looking through this data, we can see that hops are a fast but small money making, focused in doing daily faming, while starfruits are a slow but huge money making method, that makes you stay in your farm basically twice. And theres blueberry, a mix of both, a method that you need to farm once in a while to collect and make jellies (or sell them).

For me, i would farm some hops along side with blueberries in Year 1, and keep the hops in storages until i get kegs. Even though hops are a good money making, they take too much space, if you want to make them nice and organized. Then, for Year 2, i would go for a mix between hops, starfruit, berries and ancient fruits.

I hope this helped someone out there

Edit (thx Ryika): For Year 1, since you have few resources and trying to get lots of money, its wise to plant only a few hops (since they are quite cheap and they regrow) and doing pale ale once in a while, when you get the keg. Its not time consuming as seed making, and helps with some money along the way ( thx to the 12x value it gives to hops), while you focus on another plant, such as blueberries (like i said in conclusion). So just set about 8 hops around a quality sprinkler and you'll be fine.

Hops are the #1 crop imo. Cranberries are #2. I guess #3 is probably starfruit...

Hops are amazing in the early game for a number of reasons. They give tons of free XP, since you harvest them regularly. You can harvest them I think 16 times per seasons, at 6 XP per harvest, so 96 XP per crop per season. Blueberries, for comparison, will give 40 XP in a season, and melons will give 54 XP. So hops can help you power-level Farming to unlock sprinklers before Fall, which can be tricky for some players.

Additionally, you can eat the hops. They're a GREAT food source for Mining, if the player didn't have a good enough salmonberry harvest, like I didn't on my first playthrough. It's a slightly worse, but easier to get, version of sashimi.

Finally, in the endgame, they're very quick cash for a smaller profit overall compared to things like starfruit. Starfruit needs to be replanted regularly, but to compensate, you only need to refill the kegs weekly. Pale ale brews in... 2 days? And a full shed will earn you like 20-25k I think? So I usually do 1 wine shed, and 1 beer shed. The wine shed is the moneymaker, but the beer shed keeps some spending cash on-hand for when I spend all my cash on other seeds.

When I fill out my greenhouse, I typically do 2 outer rows of hops and 10 inner rows of something like ancient fruit or berries or forage or whatever strikes my whimsy.

EDIT: Found my greenhouse layout for people who REALLY like hops. :P

I first fell in love with hops for using them as food while mining. Since they regrow every day and you likely will not have enough kegs to keep up with that many the extra can be used as food. I usually keep 16 of these in my greenhouse. Pretty much all the energy regen I would need.
