1) The pet. Marnie doesn't "dump" an animal on you; she says, more or less, "I found a stray, but I'm so busy with my own family and caring for my own animals I couldn't give it the attention it deserves. By giving you cat/dog, you and the animal will both have companionship and a happy home."
2) Marnie seems to be frustrated with Shane's alcoholism, but it's obvious that she's still concerned about him and fears for his well-being because a)she asks the player for help and b) she still allows Shane to live in her house.
3) I'm not sure what on this Earth (err, wherever Stardew Valley is) makes you think "anyone who wants a loyal relationship with a single partner is a ho, but you're completely wrong about who wants secrecy. Lewis is the one who wants to keep their romance a secret because, as mayor of the town, he's worried people would think he's showing unethical favoritism to Marnie.
But I have something to add to your comments
1) yes, according to her. But again, she barely knows the protagonist and just assumes what she is doing is right. I understand what you mean but it doesnt make what shes doing right.
2) Firstly doesn't Shane pay her for living. Ok, I admit she isn't the worst (in fact its very nice of her to let shane stay). Of course she is concerned but she does nothing and again relying on us. If it was a small chore id get it but this is the life of her nephew and she is basically like "i cannot be asked, he is a screwup. I'll just let the new guy handle him". Also, Shanes biggest problem is depression due to being a failure and noone taking him seriously or listening to him. Please explain how Marnie aids with this, in any of the dialogue between the tree (Marnie, Shane, protagonist).
3) No, I meant sleeping around (it was joke, calm down, i take it back if needed). The emphasis here was on the secrecy of their relationship. You might be absolutely right, and it might just be my negative image of her that I saw a person who is so ashamed of her nephew that she had, what could be, an affair (slight possibility) with a town mayor out of desperation but does not want the town to know. This however is a very weak point and you are most probably right.
Again even with all these good things, I still consider her the worst Stardrew character.
Emphasis on worst, and not bad.
It is not up to us to prove you wrong. It is your assertion, so it is up to you to prove you are right.
Which you have hardly done.
But in all seriousness why did the character not decline responsibility of a stray a stranger offered you (sure you as a player can't reject it but your character sure didn't) that's not normal behavior, most people that can care for it will and those who can't won't. Really wish you could decline important things like this.
On topic though, my friends constantly spoke badly about shane because they disliked his attitude when encountered randomly (not sure what it was he said to them) but it just goes to show how far a misunderstanding or one bad interaction can go, even if it's just that one time they always speak badly about shane when they see him lol.
2. Lucky you that you don't have a first-hand experience with living with someone with addiction, especially if it's a small rural town (more like a village even). Maybe Marnie just don't know what to do with Shane anymore short of wrapping him up and shipping to some recovery clinic (btw, it costs money and I'm not sure she's doing all to well for that), and besides that wouldn't work if he doesn't want help in the first place. He admits to having a problem LATER to an OUTSIDER. As it stands, we see only a glimps of Marnie/Shane interactions and who knows how it was before you as a player show up... If you see it your way - well, that's how you see it. I saw it totally differently.
Oh, and btw - what looks like belittle to an outsider might be just a (sort of) friendly inside family joke, definitely without any malicious intent behind it. You know - eye of a beholder...
3. Marnie wants love, and wants their relationship to be brought to light - it's Lewis who wants to keep it secret. I might have a different opinion on her putting up with that, but that still doesn't make her a ho. And btw, she is loyal to her love, so your remark about sleeping around doesn't stand. I'd say Caroline should be called out for "sleeping around" first (remember - dubious Abigail's parentage).
I gotta do reasearch more.
Hahaha, this thread must have been so confusing for a minute!
Small religious rural communities, am I right?
