Wiki warning: how to treat sheep, pigs, dinosaurs?
Are we supposed to pet pigs, sheep, and dinos or not?

For these animals the wiki warns in bold red: Warning: Pigs will NOT PRODUCE ANYTHING if they are at a high enough mood and friendship to produce a "Deluxe Product", because the animal type cannot produce Large or Deluxe products.

And yet, in the case of pigs, "They have a chance of digging up multiple truffles, which is a percent chance equal to Animal Friendship/1500. At max friendship this means they have a 66% chance of creating an additional truffle. Multiple truffles can be made until the animal fails this check."

So confused.

I have 3 pigs. They all are at 5 hearts. I pet them every day. They have been around 6 months. This is what I get, from 3 pigs, every week or so. All the truffles are iridium quality and I have the bonus when picking up items. I often get 10+ truffles in 1 day, not counting when I get 1 or 2 truffles on any other normal day. The money coming from this is insane. Imagine having 10 pigs, well fed and petted every day, what they could produce.

Same with dinosaurs and other animals, when petted and well fed EVERY DAY, not missing one day, they all produce enormous quantities of everything. I think it's more close to 75-80% than anything. I've had few days throughout the month where the pickings were slim, but nothing to be scared about.

Thank you for the good information. So how does one avoid the Deluxe product condition which is apparently a problem? Is it all-in with care, or else nothing?

Wow, you've sold me on pigs. I'm also wondering if you're making oil. It looks like oil pays less than cash for iridium quality truffles.

P.S. Your picture makes me understand the need for fences for pigs. Imagine hunting for truffles in free-range grass.

I think wiki confused "Dinosaurus with Pigs", Dinosaurus the one who can't produce anything if they are at a high mood (they still can produce gold star Eggs, but can't produce Iridium quality which usually only occur in winter with "heater" mood buff), since basically they not intended to be "Farm" animal, but just keep them as exotic pet.

Well their egg sells for 350g tho compare to regular chicken 50g, and gold Dinosaurus egg sells for 500g, so it's not really a bad deal, especially late game when money no longer a problem.

But if you after the money then pigs is the clear winner, I get 2 Deluxe Barn with full pigs that produce 24-48 max truffles each day (that's 30,000 gold minimum and 66% chance to get 60,000g each day!).
Just make sure you have enough space and surround their barn with fences, and make sure they consume fresh grass every day since it will make their mood full (which means double the truffle!)

Well don't forget to take Botanist skills (level 10 foraging skill that makes Foraged items always iridium) since truffle considered as foraged item.

And make big enough space with fences and then separate it into 2 section, so you can keep plant new grass and make it spread while the pigs grassing the other section.

Sorry for my bad english and maybe this pic can explain it better.

Ohh and another thing, DO NOT turn your truffle into truffle oil once it already reach iridium quality, iridium truffle = 1250g while truffle oil = 1065g.

That happen to many item tho, since most artisan products don't have star quality (unless you turn it with Cask), for example 'gold wool' from rabbit or sheep = 510g, turn it to 'cloth' and it sell for 470g, even worse if it iridium wool (680g).
Also keep in mind that quality makes no difference when using Kegs / Jars.

I get really inconsistent results from my pigs. I have 3 of them, two are old enough to be at 5 hearts. I pat them every day, I close the door at night, some days I get truffles, some days I don't.

I've gotten as many as 4 in one day, but frequently I get none.

This talk of pigs...I'm still wrapping my head around fencing my coop and barn, have been playing around with the planner all day. Can anyone clear this up:

The wiki says Hardwood Fence The most durable type of fence. Takes an average of a year before degrading. 520-600 days.

This doesn't make sense to me. 520 days is 18+ seasons, more than four years.

Your English is great, and I like your layout. But your area looks small for so many pigs! How is there space for truffles with most of the tiles filled with grass or pigs?

Hardwood fences are the best. I'm at year 5 as we speak, I never had to replace any of the fences that you saw in my truffle pic. My previous game post 1.1, I had to replace fences every year or so. But it took 5 minutes to replace, wasn't a big deal. As soon as I got married, my spouse was repairing the fences most of the time.

That's why I keep an outside chest near my barn/coop area. I keep hay, grass starter, the milk tool, the wool tool, hardwood fences and gates. Every morning, when I arrive on location, all the stuff I need is there. I then enter the barn/coop, I pet all animals, I take the resources, and then I open the doors and leave the area. Once I'm back at night, I go back to the area and close the doors, then go to sleep. Never close the doors before 6pm.

I literally pet, fed, morning open doors, night closing doors, for 2 straight years, without missing a day (24 animals) and I made a little fortune. But it takes dedication. And yes, the dinosaur egg is the only one that will never reach iridium quality, only gold star. All other animal products (wool, truffles, small milks, large milks, goats and regular, eggs, void eggs, duck feathers and rabbit's foot) they will all have purple star at one point.

Unless you've taken the perk the increases your artisan good selling rate, because my tuffle oil goes for 1,491

Yup the artisan profession is amazing. I do turn my truffles into truffle oil. My 5 oil machines can't keep up sometimes with the amount of truffles I get.

Thanks for following up, everyone. I appreciate the wiki and couldn't play this without it, but its mistakes can be very confusing.
