Removing Marriage Mod
I installed Siv's Marriage Mod a while back so that I could choose whoever I wanted to marry (Linus, specifically). Now, I've gotten bored with the mod and the bugs that it has, and I want to uninstall it. How would I go about doing that without messing up my save files?

All I did to install it was go to ~/.config/ (I'm on a Mac) and I pasted the mod folder into the Stardew Valley folder. Would I just delete/remove it from the Stardew Valley folder? I really don't want to screw up my saves.

Thanks!

You can either remove it from the stardew valley folder or verify game cache (this will get rid of all other mods, though).

I don't have any other mods. So I can just delete the folder and all will be well?

I'd say so, yes.

But I'd recommend backing up your savefile just incase.

Also, if anyone else has/had this mod, did you marry the wizard? I was debating between him and Linus, but decided on Linus. What's the wizard like?

Ok, thanks!

If you married anyone with the mod, your saves will be corrupted if you uninstall the mod. It will have written data to the save file that the game doesn't know how to read.

Reinstalling the mod would fix the saves, though, so it's not that bad of an issue. There's also a way to go through a save and delete the data causing the read errors, restoring the save back to vanilla, but it's quite annoying.

Wouldn't it be possible to verify game cache though?

That would restore the game's files to normal... but not the save file. The save file is entirely separate and keeps track of things like who you're married to. Without the mod, that's going to cause an error. New characters would be fine, though.

This is the risk you take when using mods.

It really depends on the mod.'

Very true. Like texture mods are typically safe. I guess I meant in general with any game.

Texture mods and mods that affect game mechanics like fishing are generally safe to remove freely. Mods that add anything to save data are the ones that can cause corruption and errors when removed.
