Change Appearance?
Is there any way to change your appearance in the new update or is it only for clothing?

The shrine of illusions in the basement of the wizard's tower allows you to change your look. You need 4 hearts with the wizard to access it. It doesn't allow changing genders though. It's been in the game for even longer than 1.4.

Does that mean I can tweak hair color, etc.?

Yes. You can even change your pet's appearance since 1.4 added 2 other breeds for both cat and dog. Only thing you can't do anymore is changing clothes because of the new tailoring system.
