Question about co-op
So if I play with my friends, I am the host. If I created the game. If I am not online, will they be able to play? Or how does the coop works?

Any save file can be hosted as either singleplayer or multiplayer "Co-op" mode. When the farm is created is when the host chooses how many houses will be placed on the farm (1-4). While hosting the game in Co-op mode the first player can add houses to his farm by visiting Robin.

ohhh so the progress of the game is individual for us or we work together?

Trying to be spoiler free here: Some things you work on together (some events, some major quests), some things you work on individually (relationships, other events, other major quests). You do need to decide if you are sharing the "profits" from selling items or if you want separate funds for each player. And you will probably want to make some decisions about how separated/cooperative you want the farm to be. For example, w/Four Corners map it is pretty easy to either have separate farming areas (houses spread out); or coordinated farming (houses close together).

Ahh that's really good information.

So if we are to share EVERYTHING, from funds to lands, to farms, also can? :)

No they won't be able to play, time and progress is tied to the save file. time will only pass when you are playing and everyone's characters, progress, gear, etc is tied to the save file and the game saves at the end of every day

When you make the file in co-op you choose at the start to share funds or to have separate funds, this can be changed later if you want by visiting the mayors house. generally shared funds if you want to work together or separate funds if you want to do your own things and don't want to share money

be warned about the shared/none shared thing. i made a new farm and choose seperated funds, but after the first reload (i startet it solo so i coud buy and choose the buildspot for the second players house myself, so i needed to buy it from robin first day) it was one pool again. only after my friend visited the game and i choose seperation again it stayed that way.

to answer the start question, farm save file depends on host.

I feel like some of the above information might be info overload to someone who hasn't played the game or looked up much about it so ill just simplify some of that down and add some detail to it to make it easier to understand if you need it and throw in some extra info

The amount of cabins you start with determines how many people can join, each person other then the hose that joins gets assigned a cabin (1-3 cabins, 1 cabin is 2 players, 2 cabins is 3 players and 3 cabins is 4 players, player 1 gets the main house)

if you don't start with all cabins from the start you can buy more later from a carpenter in the game (robin) who you will meet when you start playing

Save data is tied to the cabins for each player so once a player takes up a cabin no one else can take that cabin (unsure but you can probably delete it which should remove that players data and build a new one if you have someone stop playing and want to replace them, but like I said not 100% sure on that)

Things that are tied to characters are relationships (how much each npc likes you), skill levels (I.E Mining, Fishing, Farming, Combat, Foraging) which determine how good your character is at certain things plus any perks they have when they hit level 5 and 10 in each skill respectfully, quests, items you are carrying on you, Max hp and Energy (there are only a few ways to increase these and they will happen as you play so nothing to worry about)

If they are close friends I would recommend playing together with shared funds as long as you can agree on what to spend them on and work as a team and only play when all of you are on so no one misses anything for a much more enjoyable first time experience. That's not to say starting off with separate funds won't be just as fun but its just my opinion.

The general gameplay loop in this game is quite simple
>wake up at start of day
>do stuff
>be in bed by 2 am
>game saves
>repeat

to play thru 1 day in game takes 14 minutes 20 seconds(without pauses)

I am pretty sure the host can type /pause which might be needed every now and then when other players are watching relationship scenes because when this game was first made it wasn't designed with multiplayer in mind which shows sometimes and watching cut scenes when you hit certain relationship levels is one example since time keeps going in multiplayer which can lead to some players being locked (you can skip but most people want to watch them) into a cut scene and time will keep going and can lead to them passing out (if you are not in bed by 2am you pass out and depending on where you are can lead to you losing some money iirc when you are dragged home) if the scene is late in the day.

I am unsure if its an engine limitation or if rewriting some code to make time pause and all players view the scene would break some things in the game but the above tip should help with that for the most part, sadly from what I have heard the host wont be able to pause during his scenes so that is just something you will have to deal with

I set out with this new post to try and simplify things but maybe I have made it much worse with the amount of info I have posted, hopefully its simple enough to understand without having the context that you would from playing the game vs someone who hasn't yet.

p.s. wow this took me like 30 mins to do up, I spent way more time thinking it thru then I needed lol, guess I ain't braining at 100% since its 3:30am so ima hit the hay, if you need help with anything or have other questions I will respond whenever I check the thread next

host can indeed pause using "/pause" in the chat line. A good way to pause the game while everyone attempts to coordinate. Otherwise the day will just blow by while you are talking :).

Hey! I TOTALLY APPRECIATE your time you took the type this out. Indeed, it was confusing for a player like me who hasn't play the game. Yes, it will be close friends I am playing with. 3 of us, are planning to buy the game but just wondering how the coop works. We prefer to share the same funds too judging on what you shared.

Nonetheless, based on your explanation, I am still unsure if we are able to continue our saved game is the host (say is me) is not online. Will they be able to load the save file and play on without me? Or they have to wait for me to be online before we can carry on?

I would advise against playing without each other as time moves on in a day to day basis so while one of you are offline you will miss events and such but if you guys are fine with that that is up to you

but to answer your question, no they can't play without the host, the host has the save file on their comp and needs the host to run it to be able to play, all data for the characters and you stats/gear/progress is tied to the save file (and the cabins in the file for players 2 thru 4) itself on the hosts computer/cloud

Aww! yeah thanks! So really advisable to play together. But now when we commit to buy, Steam is not allowing me to buy the game. It ask me to contact Steam Support. Ha!
