Do you have a source that shows you need 2? It looks like multiple people (including me) have had animals give birth when they only had one of the type. It doesn't make much sense to need 2 animals of the same type to breed. For one thing all of the goats and cows are definitely female, and I'm pretty sure Marnie refers to all the other animals you buy as female too (literally bought a pig to test this). I think this is like the HM miracle potions except that they kick in randomly (maybe affected by time, hearts or other factors). Similarly, you don't need 2 of the same type of egg-laying animal in order to successfully incubate an egg, even though IRL you'd need a male to make the egg viable.
There is no "pregnancy", they just appear based on the RNG.
Despite only needing one adult animal to produce a baby, the odds of getting a baby increase for every additional adult of the same type. So if you have 11 pigs and one free space in a deluxe barn, your chances of a baby pig appearing are maximum (disregarding other game factors that may apply, like lucky days or items that give luck).
I've read it on the wiki of Stardew Valley somewhere, it could be wrong tho
it is wrong.
I'm not sure which would be scarier...if your character were male, or female.
