Why would fences even break apart??
It's just so obtuse! What is this, is every step it's own trial too? why doesn't clothing degrade since BRICK ********* WALLS JUST DISSOLVE AS IF LEFT IN ACID ....

Also the preference for hardwood fences is just .. very obtuse too - Who's game is this, the dev's or the people who play it! For aesthetics sake that really needs to be balanced.

Its just a game mechanic, most games doesn't make sense anyway. like being shot or stabbed and surviving most times. also in stardew valley case the metal fences are even more weird since they last longer than the brick fences...

Of course metal fences will last longer. They last longer irl and they are also far FAR easier to repair. At worst unless it's physical damage it can just corrode, which you can completely prevent with a spray.

So let me get this straight -- You do not question a world in which a wizard teaches you to talk to little critters who will repair the community center, or a world in which there is some kind of troll living in the sewer who sells you sprinklers, or a world in which the mines are infested with slime creatures and other beasties who will eat you but you can mine all kinds of ores and minerals with just a pickaxe and a hoe, but you cannot accept a world in which the game mechanic is set so that hardwood fences last longer than stone fences.

Or are you just pissed at yourself because you never bothered to read the wiki and find out which materials made the best fences?

lol, also, hardened aged wood would easily last longer than a "stone" wall fence. Stone is not that durable. I feel like the guy complaining doesn't even know wth he is talking about.

to add to this whole thing, why are hardwood fences the highest tier? With iridium, you'd think we'd have some like high energy fence shielding that lasts at least 2 months in a row

Nope, metal fences get rust in real life and eventually dissapear, thats why there isn't many metal stuff from medieval times (or older) nowadays, and thats why the pyramids are still standing even today

Wood won't last longer if exposed to rain, stone will last much longer in this case

Sorry, gotta amass a fortune and buy a certain building if you want the fences to last forever without decay. That's the way it works.

"Hardwood" (which can come from several different types of trees) is compressed so tightly and over such a length of time that water can't get into the grains and structure. I'm not using my opinions in my posts here I'm a mechanical engineer with a red seal in machining and Red seal millwright . Like I said, the metal only rusts if it has no coating that protects it from the atmosphere. Even then most fences are alloys now a days and lined with nickel for corrosion resistance. You can also just spray it semi regurarily with an anti corrosive spray to stop it as well. Star dew very much so has the fence quality in the correct orders. Regular stone and common wood material are the weakest. Brick is very durable but will never last as long as steel, steel is also far easier to repair, brick takes a lot of work to fix holes and replace. Brick is also full of hundreds if not thousands of tiny air pockets, over time from heat expansion and cooling it will begin to break down and actually split/fall apart. A steel fence using proper material will last 10-20 times longer than brick. And compressed high quality wood has the weaknesses of neither of the two.

Yea i do not like so much this mechanic but you know. just accept it. I do think this happens because.. realism WOW. and because you would use fences so make barns and that stuff so you would be punished by not paying much atention to your stuff and maybe when a fence breaks the animal would be forgotten outside the barn or coop and you lose it.. i mean it makes a bit of sense but i dont think that was really necessary to add fenced deteriorating to the game.

The best advice i got for you. Mod your game or just accept it, it cant be that big of a deal uh, only if you just uses fences on the entire farm then thats bad..

Progress the game and buy the Golden Clock from the Wizard. Your fences will never break, rubble won't appear on your farm every season, your farm will remain pristine forever. Except for grass and trees spreading, but that's arguably not a bad thing.
