Multiplayer without the Host
So, as far as I can tell, there is no way for players on a server to play without the host. I would love to be able to start the server without actually playing because there are times when I can't play but the other players on my server want to. A command to put my character into a stasis mode, for example, (so that the game acts as if that player weren't playing) would be really helpful.

Someone else in your group could be the host instead.*this means starting a new farm

Of the 3 of us, I'm available the most often. It's not that big of a deal but it would be a nice feature so that they can still play if I'm busy.

I'm used to the separate server system where I start up the server and then anyone can play even if I can't. (That said, I much prefer the ease of Stardew Valley's server creation).

Would it be possible to just copy the save data of the farm, send it to them? Not 100% myself.

I haven't tried it yet but I don't think you can do that because of the character. I think someone would have to play as my character for that to work, (if it would work at all) which we don't want.

It's not like SB where you can transfer the map and login to it. The game in SV is entirely based on the host and the joining farm hands who are coded into the farm as soon as they login to it.

I think hosting a server is more then resaonable in this day in age, I mean it can't take all that much to host a server for 4 people on that game...

Stardew is one of the few games where dedicated servers would actually be counter-productive to the enjoyment of the game.

Since relationships and events are heavily influenced by the passage of time, if one person was on all the time, everyone else misses out on events, the rewards from them, and missing several birthdays.

And what happens with dedicated servers? Would time go from 6 AM to 2 AM normally, whether someone is there or not? Does it save after each day? Would crops grow on their own, then die come the next season?

Or does it only run if someone is online? Does it still run at normal speed, or can this person speed sleep the next 10 years while everyone else is offline?

You would have to create a entirely new gamemode where the farm can go on for long periods of time in online mode in a long meta game, and progress with a town won't budge and is based on interactions... If so you might as well tell a new narrative of starting a farming town from scratch, a sequel maybe?

A sequel to Stardew Valley where you 'start' a farm and only a farm, and the town grows with you, eventually you can dictate how a town grows and such?

I prefer it if there is a narrative in Stardew for the adventuring side of the game, with a antagonist and such.
