It's kinda not, It's super random... You might get fruit 5 days in a row, you might not get any for 2 ingame weeks.

Edit: To continue, Mushrooms are consistent profit, and later game you can use it to make life healing potions, which can be nice.

Should only take a couple of weeks at most to make life heaing potions.
Not neccessarily end game stuff.

Fruit bats also have a good chance of helping you finish some otherwise difficult Community Center bundles, which is why I choose fruit bats now. Mushrooms can, too, but... you can find those mushrooms in the mines, too, with any luck. So it kind of comes down to a preference of how you want to play the game.

Yes, but anything the fruit bats give can also already be grown on your farm or foraged in the wild during their respective seasons (literally the only thing you cannot grow is the ever-useless salmonberries that I always end up just using as gifts because they're worth basically nothing and can be collected in the hundreds).

In my personal opinion, it boils down to whether or not you want to plant fruit trees at some point in your game or not. If you don't intend to plant any fruit trees ever, then fruit bats are an excellent choice, as you can find mushrooms in the caves just like you said. But if you will at some point plant fruit trees, mushrooms cannot under normal circumstances be grown on your farm otherwise, so for the sake of diversity I feel like they win out.

I still like to try to finish the community center bundles before the end of year 2. It's not required anymore, but it's still a personal challenge. Regardless, I'm not great at making money anyway, but I enjoy spending time on the adventure stuff like the mines. So the trees are still pretty expensive for me, and the mines are easy.

But as I said, it's a matter of preference. :D

If you're doing multiplayer, life elixirs might be more useful - when enemies don't pause like they do in single player, low-healing food like berries aren't always enough. You'll want high healing food early on, which isn't easy before you get a kitchen. After you do get a kitchen, though, the life elixirs lose a lot of their usefulness, as other foods are more reliable to make and give stat boosts.

That said, it feels like they buffed the fruit bats in 1.3, because I'm noticing fruit a lot more than normal. I'd say the fruit bats might be better for profit now, if you make wine or jelly of the stuff. Mushrooms are more consistent, lower profit.

I opted for mushrooms. Back then i crafted this healing potion for my mine trips. Therefore the mushrooms are very good. And i like mushrooms in general. Do the bats bring rare fruits that i don't find foraging around? When i was faced with this decision i was thinking the fruits i can gather through a little foraging, but mushrooms are very rare i thought. Okay until now i discovered a place where i can find mushrooms, but back then when i was faced with this decision i didn't know it. ^^ But purple mushrooms i think they are very rare to get without the mushroom cave. ^^

No. They have a chance to drop any fruit you can grow on your farm with fruit trees, or any fruit-type forage item. Maybe they can bring out-of-season fruits, but apart from that there is no exclusivity at all.

I think i decided very well to opt for mushrooms. :) I already planted trees and two of them are yielding fruit yet in summer. The saplings were very expensive, now the fruits - only 1 per day - does not really bring much money. What is best to do with the tree fruits? Present them to the villagers or save them for later?

You can make decent money by turning into wine, if monetary gains are your goals. Shipping for achievements, some are necessary for bundles. Apart from that... not sure.
Both caves will eventually become irrelevant when it comes to "Making money". They are simply there to give you easy access to fruit before the heavy investment of growing trees, or mushrooms if you're not a fan of caving.

Personally. I feel Mushroom is just better over all.
Common Mushrooms are liked gifts for Linus, Harvey and Leah.
Chanterells are great energy recovery.
Morels can be quite difficult to get if you dont get the secret wood unlocked before your first summer rolls arrives. Leaving you twiddling your thumbs until next spring rolls around.
Purple Mushrooms are good gifts for the wizard if you haven't got a supply of Void essence yet.

In short: Neither cave are for profit. They're convenience.
