How often is there a storm?
I need lightning for batteries. Been waiting for ages.

It's pretty random, but in my games most of the thunderstorms happen during fall with a few others happening in summer. I don't remember getting many in spring

Thunder storms can happen in summer and fall. I think it's mostly random how many you get, and how many lightning strikes happen each storm.

It's not guaranteed that lightning will strike your rods either, just a very good chance.

You should regularly check the traveling cart too, because she can sell battery packs as well.

I think it rained like twice in spring, and we've had like 3 thunderstorms on the 15th-ish of summer so far. I forget if summer or fall has more; seems like irl summer has more storms, but in-game it's fall.

Not very often in my current game. No rain in Fall, maybe 3 days in Summer. I noticed something curious in the beta though (SP). 3 times in Fall I decided to quit the game, but checked the weather before quitting to desktop and the weather forecast was for rain. All 3 times when I loaded up the game again the weather forecast changed to a sunny day. Very strange. I didn't think weather forecasts changed when you loaded the game up. (The weather forecasts were always correct; the next day was whatever the forecast said it would be.) I never tried loading up the game over and over trying to get a rainy day. I'm skeptical that would work.

Oh I'm in spring right now so I guess that's why. If I use rain totems during summer/fall does it increase the chance of a storm?

The weather forecast will say if a thunderstorm is coming or not, besides, I had 2 or 3 thunderstorms during spring

As far as I've seen, every single time it rained in summer/fall, it was a thunderstorm. Very annoying my first year when I had no recipe for a lightning rod...

Had 4-5 storms per season, too.

Tons for me during fall, like every 5 days there was a storm. 1 or 2 total during Summer.

Don't use rain totems the last day of the month. It won't work to cause rain on the 1st. I've never had them not work on other days, but I thought there was a chance they could fail.

Can u spam rain totems for them?

This page from the wiki appears to give a look under the hood for weather. If it is correct then you can use this to understand what increases the chance for stormy weather.
Just got one in Spring.
