1.Start a new game.
2.On the first day, go to the north boarder of mountain lake.
3.Look for a wooden bridge blocked by blouders that has a worker working on it.
4.Note this location, wait for 5th day.
5.On 5th day, check the mail from Joja company about the mine opening. Go to the location noted previously, and you will see the bridge is now clear and able to pass through.
6.Go through the bridge, you will see a cave, that is the mine.
Works for everyone who doesn't know where the mine is
Actually I have never had to open the letter to get into the mines... it has just been open on day 5 without needing to even go near the letter box let alone click it and read anything.
Edit:

(I don't know how to upload videos on to here.. sorry)
Basically wanted to make sure the mines did work on a new game.. and they did.
I ignored the letter completely on the way to the mines on day 5 and as seen in the video didnt even go near the mail box till after returning from the open mines (sword from mines cut scene as proof of order of events)
It is possible that some players are looking at the area that opens in summer and gives access to the spa and mistaking it for the mines entery.
And that is my 5cents for the day spent :p
