The marriage is... lackluster
I used to binge this game a couple months, little over a year ago, and interacting with all the characters were wonderful! I loved the heart events and the character development that went on. My favorite of the bunch had to be shane. Despite my recent "crush at first sight" being Elliot and Seb, I ended up marrying Shane. I think I regret my choice.

Everything went pretty well (despite his filthy room clashing with my house). He seemed like the perfect husband until I recently picked by up the game and have been farming money like no ones business. Sprinklers, Autofeeders, you name it. But he still tries to... "help" sometimes. But everything is... already done (except for the fences. thxs babes). Along with that, as for Shane, I am starting to feel that he really didn't change at all. He still talks about beer and having one too many. He gets rather depressed and bored since he doesn't have a job anymore once Jojo shut down. He just stands there.

I know all marriage candidates have this similar problems. They just sit there and are used mostly as decoration, but the dialogue is what drove me to get married in the first place. Now... part of me is wanting my single life back or to try a new with another... but I think that will end in failure as well :kittybrokenheart:

Also, speaking of dialogue, I still find it funny that Marnie talks to me like he is still living at her house. Like... nope. Trust me. He lives with me.

Another added thing to complain about; kids. I love the idea of having my own kids (and I know it would be rather weird for them to age while the kids in Stardew don't) but I would love for them to get old enough to be able to... talk. Or do something besides get in my way inside my own home. Maybe old enough to go around town and interact with other characters.

Ah. I can dream, can't I?

Anyways, who did you marry? Anything you want to complain about about your spouse or children? Have you gotten a divorce? I'm interested in listening. :luv: :stardrop:

it does seem like such a nice concept when you first hear about it, but then you need to get said person you want to marry to eight hearts, buy a bouquet, get them to ten hearts, get the house upgrade, wait for a rainy day and buy the mermaid's pendant, and then wait three more days only to come to the realize your spouse does absolutely nothing. it can take over a year, depending on when you're planning to get married.

Yeah. Which, when I first played, I didn't mind all the work that it took to put into it because I really enjoyed the characters. I thought the effort was worth it... until you are actually married. xD I think it took me until mid second year on my first file to get married. Maybe later on during fall if I remember.

Though, in Shane's defense specifically, marriage doesn't solve depression or alcoholism. Still, your general point about marriage having low reward for the requirements isn't far off. Especially since Marnie doesn't seem to even recognize that Shane is living with you now.

Like you, I married Shane (my first time through) and I'm going to marry Penny on my second play as soon as I can get it to rain again. I wish I could clean Shane's room though; it makes my skin crawl to see our child crawl through there. (I've mentioned this in other posts). Still, I imagine it's a lot of work to make the marriages more interesting, and if the maker continues to work on it, I'm sure we'll see improvements to our married lives. :)

As for divorce, I'm afraid that would well and truly push Shane over the edge. No, I don't think that's coded into the game, but we have to supply a little of our own imagination to these things; the games shouldn't do it all for us. :D

Dunno if you're comfortable using mods, but I've definitely seen a mod that cleaned up the beer cans and footprints from his room. Not sure about the rest.

I'm not sure if I'll use it, but thanks for the link. :) I'll consider it when it's NOT 2am for me. :)

at least you didnt marry abigail. Seems like every summer morning all she does is apologizes about the hamster and the "smell and sweat" all night.

Don't knock my sweet Abby! She fixes the fences, refills the dog's water bowl, and makes me a bomb every so often. What more can a man ask? :steamhappy:

Yeah ain't that the truth. I had the prismatic shards in my invetory ready to get a diorce and then go to the witchs hut to get rid of Shane and my useless kids and start a new... but I couldn't do it. ;u; I can't poof away my kids. They have their whole immortal life ahead of them. And Shane wasn't doing himself any favors being at Marnies.

You know, I'm scared to use mods. I want to get as many achievments as I can before I do any modding ;u;
