Ten Hearts without bouquet.
Hi,
I read on Stardew Valley forum that it is possible to reach ten hearts friendship with marriage candidates without giving them a bouquet. To do so, you need to reach eight hearts first and then give them a loved birthday gift and the friendship points will increase up to 10 hearts, so you'll be able to see all 10 hearts events without dating the whole town. Can someone tell me, does it really work?

I want to say no, because with the latest update I've noticed that eligible bachelor/ettes hearts actually stop at 8 and don't even allow going higher until you give them a bouquet. I could be wrong, though.

Not sure about the actual question, but the 10 heart events for the bachelors are all (or maybe "mostly" if I'm missing some exception) romance-based, sooo... the thing about "not dating the whole town" won't work.

If you want to see all the events with one character, you'll need to do some "pretending this didn't just happen" either way. Might as well give out bouquets at that point, since once you marry a character the girlfriend/boyfriend flags will be removed anyway and the characters act as if nothing romantic ever happened between you and them.

No. I very, very much doubt it.
Also yes, all the 10 heart events are romantic so there's hardly a point to this.

You won't be considered their boyfriend/girlfriend, and you'll be lowered back down to 8 hearts the following day. Otherwise, if it still works, yeah, you can see them... but they're pretty much all romantic cutscenes. Sharing a sleeping bag, having a romantic dinner together, kissing under the stars, a romantic boat ride together...

I don't think you were lied to though TC. I've definitely seen the Harvey 10 heart event without giving him a bouquet after giving him a coffee on his birthday--the explanation iirc was that I was at just under 8 hearts with him and that gift shot me all the way to 10 hearts (it still showed as 8 hearts with 2 greyed out on the friendship screen though). That was in an earlier version though, who knows if it still works that way now

From what I recall, it's a tricky process to execute.

You need to have 7.999 hearts with the given NPC, and then give them a "loved" gift on their birthday. If you actually hit 8 hearts, then your progress is locked and you're stuck at that.

I use a mod that lets me see the numbers. Each heart represents 250 friendship points. It is possible to earn 249 points after earning the last heart, whatever that heart is. This gives a buffer against negative gifts/events.

A "loved" gift is 80 points. A birthday is a 8x multiplier. 640 points. Put it another way, you can pull it off at 7.440 hearts.

A "loved" gift with a star is +10%/25%/50% more. So with the example of Harvey, iridum star wine on his birthday is 960 friendship points, a hair shy of four hearts.
