Million gold item ID exploit doesn't work anymore?

So I was watching this OLD video from DangerouslyFunny from 2017 and he was able to make a million gold in the first day by naming his character [434][166][163] or something like that, so when any NPC said his name he'd get a treasure chest, the legend fish and a stardrop. He'd talk to Gus over and over and keep adding the items up until he had like 56 of them, then sell them all and whammo, million gold. It looks like ConcernedApe patched Gus's dialogue out some time ago, because when I talk to him at the saloon, he just asks me if I want anything.

It does KIND OF still work at the start with Pierre and Caroline, but only once, and it nets me a total of 20,000 gold on the first day. Not bad, but not a million.

I think the dialogue was removed, though animals might still work. It's certainly slower - but on the Switch it was patched out entirely because it could potentially cause crashes, so it looks like the decision to leave in item spawn code exploits at all was certainly intentional.

You can still name your character that. It's not as easy as it was before but it will still work IF you know the right gift to give some people. I use different numbers but one of them is for prismatic shard. If you give a shard to Abigail, Shane, Maru and Elliot they will thank you by saying your name. Gus still works ONCE you become better friends with him. It just takes a bit longer to get him to say your name. I'm trying to remember if anyone else does regularly but it;'s late and I'm tired. If you don't skip the opening scenes Robin and Lewis will say your name 1 time each. I play on a PC so have no idea about other consoles.

I mean I have CJB Cheats installed, and it would be easy just to click to add 1 million into my wallet, but that wasn't the point of this post. It was to find out if the exploit that I saw in an earlier version still worked.

Btw, besides character naming you can use IDs to name your animals (though it's one-time only - Marnie repeats that "name" after purchase and you get items).
Also if you are married and opt for having babies - you can name them too! it's a bit of a gamble when your spouse will say their names and how often this will happens, but it's a possibility. Downside - you can rename your animals later but with kids you are stuck with whatever horrible combination you used.

I know about the animal naming trick -- I just watched the WR Community Center% speedrun a few days ago using that exact trick to get most of the bundle items.

you still can put your name with ID to exploit it but it will take some time to get the dialogue again because you need to get around 8-10 stars with the mayor and the bartender. for the bartender, talk to him before he gets to the counter as the service hour of the bar starts. for the mayor, you have to get the schedule for him hanging out at the bar on certain nights and have a chat with him as much as you want until the bar close

Or you could just change them into doves and make new kids. That's a bit horrible to say but hey, it's a game mechanic.
