What was that in the water???

Fishing at night in the ocean in Winter, and this.... THING just popped out of the water and swam out to open sea! Any idea what it was?

And also, can I catch it?

Nobody's sure what it is, and no you can't catch it. It's just a little thing that pops up every once in a while while fishing.

Merpeople? The Wizard mentions them once or twice. They look sort of like the golems you'd find in the mines, but more turquoise/green than black.

i seen it once too, it was a Nessylike Thing, and it was not even evening or night. still daylight.

Except that you can see merpeople during the Night Market and they look nothing like the thing in the ocean.

I think those are a different species with a similar name. Mermaids might be common in the SV world, I don't know, but it seems weird that you can see multiple mermaids at the beach and nobody else really seems to think it's unusual.

It's also possible it's just some random sentient monster, though. Kappas are usually portrayed as green turtle-like demons that cause mischief.
