Artifacts in the Mines
So, I'm still looking for my dinosaur egg, and I've been told that it has a chance of appearing in the mine. But where?

I've never seen any artifact spots while in the mines and I'm confused and possibly stupid.

The dirt/soil in certain levels; at the start, duggies can be found emerging from it, but the dirt can always be hoed in any level it appears.

I've cleared hundreds, possibly thousands, of those regular dirt tiles within the mines, though. I see reports of a 0.8% chance or 1% chance to find the egg, but certainly that can't be per tile.

Is it that each dirt tile has a predetermined chance to create an artifact when struck, and that those probabilities apply to what kind of artifact will emerge if an artifact has been successfully determined from a tile?

Predetermined at the start of the day, I believe. Also, the RNG kinda sucks in this game, and pretty much everyone has one or a few artifacts that take in-game years to find, so there are those factors to consider in your search.

Probably the 0.8-1% chance you mentioned is the chance that, when you find an artifact, it'll be the egg. And the other 99% of the time, it'll be a rusty spoon or a strange doll.

I've gotten maybe 5 in 500 hours. 3 were from fishing, and I dug up 2 on the same day in another file. >_>

i also never found inosaur egg from mines
fishing or artifact spot/stems/worms
whatever you call it, is better choice than wasting energy in hoeing mines

Until you get a burgler's ring and the elevator working for the last 40 levels to slay shadow brutes and bats (and do nothing else for a week), the best way to actively search for the rare disc is by hoeing the mines. The sooner you start looking for it the better as it's usually one of the last ones for everyone.

I found a half-dozen dinosaur eggs from fishing treasure chests, and two from worm tiles.

Never any from the mines, despite some pretty serious hoeing.
