Mainly it's useful for ancient fruit and strawberries, though.
For anything else, it's annoying unless you have several of them. :S
Yeah, basically that. Those are the two kinds of crops that you want in quantity that are somewhat restricted in access.
I make 400 of each berry seeds every year and don't have to go back to pierre for more seeds next season, I save almost $100,000 a season putting some of the crap fruit through that I don't have the manpower to make into wine anyway. There's no losses there!
Also when it comes to strawberries it's the ONLY way to ensure you have them before the middle of the month.
It's also helpful when I just don't want to go buy more seeds. I love my seed makers :D.
I agree with this. For me it's a time saver and I don't have to rebuy my stuff at the beginning of each season. Like I just finished Spring and have a jump start for next spring because it takes enough time to plow and plant fertilizer, even with the upgrades.
