My cows won't get me milk

Hi, i'm new to the game but i know that i have to feed them daily which i do
i have two cows, brown and white. both at 1 heart and happy everyday
its fall and they have a heater
i pet them everyday, my chickens lay eggs everyday for me, no issues
i do not close the door at night

is that the issue? is the door important or something? i check them at night and they are always inside so i never close it just incase i forgot to open it for them in the morning
i had them for 2 weeks now

what should i do? sell them and get goats? or report a bug?

The store that sells hay also sells a Pail you can use to milk the cows with.

Cows eat hay or you can let them out spring, summer and autumn and they will eat grass instead. They prefer grass. Hay is really for the winter season and for rainy days when they won't go out! To milk a cow you need a milking pail. You can get one of those at Marnie's Farm. Select the pail and then click on your cow and you'll get one milk. Sometimes it can be a bit fiddly if they won't stand still or you are too close or too far away. Later on in the game when you've got a lot of money, you can buy an autograbber at Marnie's Farm, place it in your barn and it will do the job for you, along with sheering any sheep and milking any goats you have in the barn. And there's your issue. Where did you think the milk would go if you tried to milk it without the pail? It needs the bucket to give you milk (because you don't carry jars to put it in)

Autograbber and the milk pail has nothing to do with what they eat. They are both tools to help you milk the cows (and etc like Little Goldfinch mentioned)

Were you expecting to suck it straight from the udders and spit it out as needed?

buy the milk pail and use it on the cow to milk them. get the autograbber and it will milk the automatically for you.

i think closing the door at night makes them happier so try doing that too.
