I'm in year 3, so didn't really think about when you get the recipe. People really stop playing after year 2?
I'm at the end of year 3, taking my time, still have stuff to do.

For reference, here's my farm on Spring 2, Year 2.

(Note: I didn't do Farming or Fishing this run; I afforded all this via Mining, Combat and Foraging. The sprinklers are for growing leeks, dandelions, daffodils, etc.)
Once you know what you're doing, a lot of times you don't play the long game anymore.
