Who wants reduced knockback on daggers?
Daggers usually have a weight +5 property, so they give a huge knockback. I once had the fortune to get the trident tip early enough to be relevant and it, by design or oversight, doesn't have that property. The result is a pretty dang useful little weapon.

The 2 things that cripple daggers is how close you have to get to deal damage and how much of a pain in the ass it is to kill flying type enemies that get knocked way back yet still take more hits than you'd need with other weapons.

Problem #1 is fair enough if the dagger does enough damage to compensate. Problem #2 is solved by reducing dagger knock-back because you can rapid-fire things consistently. Also stab-rapidfire-stab is a viable combo on enemies in an open area, while with a huge knock-back you have to completely pin an opponent to inflict stabby death.

The daggers are so fast that even with a minimal knockback you can keep enemies at bay until they die if they're in the right part of the hurtbox, and that somewhat mitigates the extra danger of daggers. I mean, you're still more likely to take damage, and you still need better positioning, but you inflict death faster as compensation.

I just got super lucky yesterday on a relatively new file and got a green boss slime to drop the Carving Knife. It's unremarkable but it doesn't do any real knockback, so as fast as I'm willing to jam that button I'm dealing damage.

Oh, that is very lucky. It's too bad the galaxy dagger has the +5 weight on it or I'd give it a try. It seems you have to luck in very early to get a useful dagger.

I never use daggers, but does the special attack have knockback? If not, maybe that's how CA intended it to be used?

Left-click to get an enemy off you, special attack for single enemy pwnage? Assuming you go the Acrobat route, and can use the spec more often...

The special attack does have knock back. If you have one of the low knockback daggers you can easily land 3-4 hits on a flying enemy or one that isn't pinned with the special before they're knocked clear. But with any of the many +5 weight ones you'll throw anything not pinned right to a wall clear before they take 2 hits :( Well, they might take 2 hits, but probably not 3 or the full flurry.

The forest sword is great. I got that once and used it right to the obsidian sword. Though it gets tough once you hit the lava area.

Forest sword is literally better then a level 9 dagger, I tried using the dagger but I lost 50 hp ina single confrontation XD

Biggest issue with daggers is they have no "crowd control", e.g. if you're facing more than one enemy you're in trouble.

But with less knockback at least they'd be good for rapid-firing a single enemy. You'd still pretty much -have- to have a second weapon for multiple enemies, but there's not much that can be done about that.

@Inquisitor
The crystal dagger is garbage, the Iron Sword is better than it :( TBQH I tend to use the lead rod (pretty common) till the obsidian sword unless I get a lucky drop like you did. The only exception was the trident, which despite being a dagger carried me easily through to 90.

@Tum Tum
Yeah, even with no knock-back you would want to avoid fighting groups. That would be a problem with giant iridium slime.
