I hate rain.
I lose money because of that G.D. rain. And it's been raining for 5 days straight. As if I don't lose enough money in the winter.

I know there's nothing to be done about this, just had to put it out there. :P

Here's to sunshine.

What do you do for gameplay that prevents you from earning money? I'm really curious

Eh? Rain is awesome. Rain means no time wasted watering crops! You can head right off to do whatever else you had planned.

A rainy day is a great day to push deeper into the mines.
Some fish can only be caught on rainy days.
Rainy days are the best time to upgrade your Watering Can.
Rainy days (that include thunderstorms) are when you get to make Batteries.
Rainy days mean more shells wash up on the beach the next day.
Rainy days mean the old fisherman spirit is out on the Beach.

Rain is great, I always want more rain.

I'll tell you why. Rain means no truffles. Truffle oil is like half my income, and understandable enough none of my pigs feel like digging in the nasty weather.

That's kinda your fault for relying on one income instead of several ways of making money

Everyone plays differently Connor.

But @OP, that's cool. Hope it rains less for you

Agreed. It's not about relying on one income. It's about wanting to be rich with little effort, and rain slows that down, especially if you don't need batteries.
Rain also means a day without Juminos, which is a bummer.

@Connor: It's not my only income of course, I do harvest and sell other animal products, crops and whatever ends up in my inventory which makes some coin, but I do definitely get less on those days.

@LuckySara: Thanks, sooner or later it has to.

@ArtenusBME: Yeah, it's not like I'm poor, I have a bit over 5 million now (although I'm sure you people who've played this since release would laugh about my feeble 5 millions), but I do notice a setback due to rain.

@sverdrupjahn75 Do you have tips on how to increase your truffle oil harvest? I'd like to be a fine purveyor of truffle oil. Thanks!

Build as many oil makers you can, and have a lot of pigs. That's my best tips.

We don't need no stinking oil makers.

If you have your Foraging skill to 10 and select Botanist, all of your truffles will be iridium.

Iridium truffles sell for 1250 gold. And you don't have to do anything but pick them up and put them in the shipping box.

Truffle oil only sells for 1491 gold, less than 250 gold more, and you have to pick them up, put them in an oil maker, remove the oil and put the truffle oil in the box.

Hardly worth the effort.

I have 24 very happy pigs. On a non-rainy, non-winter day, they will generally drop 2 truffles, and sometimes 3.

That gives me anywhere from 40 to 70 or more truffles a day (50000 to 87500 gold a day).

I loves them pigs.

I love my 200 bee houses, too.

If I wanted to, I could take the winter off and spend it plying the locals with Farmer Stanley's home-made wine. Everyone likes Farmer Stanley's Pomegranate Sparkling Wine. Except Penny, that is.

@Clovis Sangrail Are Iridium truffles the finest truffles to be made?
J.B.King Apr 8, 2019 @ 3:14pm
Iridium is the quality level above gold quality.

If you select the right choices leading to this ability everything you forage from the ground will be Iridium quality automatically upon picking it up.

This ability works on random wild forage like Leek, but it also works on the truffles you pick up from the ground.

Indeed, they are. Finest kind.

It took me almost three years to get my foraging up to 10 to get the Botanist perk. And you need to choose Gatherer at level 5 so you can get Botanist.

It wasn't until year 2 winter that I had the cash to build the deluxe barns and populate them with pigs. If you time it right, you can buy your pigs in winter and they will be mature and rooting for truffles by spring.

And picking up truffles from 24 happy pigs really helps you get that Foraging score up.

Make sure you have enough silo capacity to get you through the winter. Twenty-four pigs need 672 units of hay, a minimum of 3 silos just to feed your pigs.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions everyone!
