Hay from wheat
Can we please get hay from wheat already? I figured this was an oversight in the initial release of the game, and it boggles my mind that it hasn't been fixed yet. Having to fuss around with wild grass in order to feed animals is beyond tiresome. Just let me grow a bunch of wheat in the autumn and summer, harvest it for hay, and have plenty of hay to feed animals through the winter.

There's a thing called Grass Starter mate, you grow that around your fields and they'll spread over time, then you harvest them with your scythe and it turns to hay.

There's another kind of grass called wheat that you can plant right in the ground. But magically can't feed to animals for some unexplained reason.

It's more convenient to grow wheat and get hay that way.

But it's not that bad to grow grass in 3 seasons out of 4.. it grows literally on it's own without having the need to buy it, if you're careful enough.

Grass is far better!

-it multiplies
-it grows in 3 seasons
-you can harvest it whenever you want
-often pops up for free on your farms

Because it wouldn't make sense. Grass and alphalfa are cut and dried out for hay. Wheat stalks are dried out for straw. Usually for bedding. You should be happy the game doesn't make you take care of stalls for you to need straw.

in my opinion its way, way, WAY, WAY more convenient to grow grass. it grows in more seasons than wheat. you dont have to water grass but wheat. you can plant one grass starter infront of your barn and put a fence on it so it continues to produce grass without you having to renew it so you dont have to manually feed your animals when they eat outside.

AND, the grass self-propagates if you leave a few tufts.

Right, this. Very not-nutritious

yeah thats why i said that when you put a fence on a starter everything gets eaten except said starter and then it propagates again without needing to plant a new one :)
