Hey Dwarf Scroll 2, You Can’t Hide Forever
Has anyone else had trouble finding Dwarf Scroll 2? I’m wondering if there is some type of glitch. I am currently in winter of year 6. I have at least 5 of each of the other 3 scrolls, yet DS 2 continues to elude me. Honestly, the more I look for it and cannot find it, the more I want it. I feel like it’s me vs. scroll 2 at this point, and I do not like to lose. Plus, The dwarf just speaks gibberish to me when I try to give him his annual birthday diamond. He doesn’t seem to understand me either, or know that I am trying to befriend him, and at the same time am a potential customer willing to drop a hefty amount of gold on explosives that I am told he sells - but yet neither of those two things are going to happen because I don’t have DS2 therefore I have not decoded his language and cannot hang with him OR purchase his fancy ammunition. I mean, is there a way around this? I have put in the work searching. I am not proud of this but I will admit that I did purchase 2 chickens which I named (97) and [97] to see if this (supposed hack) would work. Didn’t work. I wonder if there is anyone in the valley I could hire to ‘acquire’ the scroll for me by even questionable means if necessary. My ethics are slightly flexible at this point. In case anyone has read this far (I don’t blame you if you gave up 12 sentences ago) and has some pointers, to save you the trouble of asking, I will let you know that for 6 long and exhausting years I have left LITERALLY no stone unturned. I have slayed, smashed, hoed, and bombed everything in the mines, and repeatedly in levels 41-79. I have befriended all townspeople and visitors, to level 8 and up - because I’m generally friendly and give excellent gifts, and also because if they have information on DS2 well, even the better. I can assure you I am hardly ever lollygagging around in the stardrop saloon playing video games and drinking beer, or whatever it is that lollygaggers do. I’m not sunning myself at the beach all day, lifting weights, or playing Solarian Chronicles with Sebastian and Sam (ok once) meditating near the playground for half the day like some people, smoking behind a tree, or wandering around aimlessly near the train tracks waiting to find out what it is that actually happens when a train comes that will explain why there is a pop up notification each time. I’ve only been to the spa a few times. How do I spend my time you ask? If I’m not working hard on my farm which I do quite enjoy, I am risking life and limb tearing up soil, detonating stone and assassinating every mine dwelling creature in sight (skull cavern too) every spare moment until I nearly pass out and have to scepter myself to my front door step at 1:50 am. Luckily, I have a supportive and trusting wife (granted I provide her a very comfortable lifestyle and unlimited supply of truffles, wine and goat cheese). However, she misses me because I don’t spend as much time with her as I should, and she has expressed several times that she worries that I will fall into a mine shaft. Anyone know of anything that I haven’t tried? I will update this post if I find DS2 before year 1000. Thank you.

Jesus that's some bad RNG right there (I'm assuming it's RNG anyway). I just got the game yesterday and I got the Dwarvish Translation Guide before I was even out of spring (or maybe it was summer), year 1. I've been pretty much only doing the mine to be fair though, which is probably where I found it. I remember getting the first 3 or so purely from drops from mobs in the mine.

Spring Year 1 - Excellent! Maybe I have bad RNG karma. I’m going to try planting some trees and recycling a bunch of the stuff in my chest full of old glasses, driftwood, broken CDs and Joja cola. Keep up the good work farmer!

i just hit summer Year 1, and I've had 11 scroll 1 , 6 scroll 3, and 9 scroll 4s... (Playing modded, with an elongated time scale and some mods to stretch the game out) -- No scroll 2 at all :<

i am surprised the chicken naming trick did not work. try naming the chicken with three items, and put the scroll number in the middle. make sure you use the square brackets. I found a couple of times i did not get the item i put in first or last

This is one of the best posts i've read in awhile. Thank you for sharing your angst. Will let you know if my brother and I are up to the task to find your DS2. In the meantime, keep up the good fight.

I hope not, Annie. Okay, abbi, I am going to try your suggestion with [97] in the middle and see what happens. Also, new strategy I am trying (starting yesterday) is going through the slimy tunnel in the sewer that leads to a bunch of weeds and those sleepy angry flying insects. I found another dwarf scroll 3, and about 40 fiber and the same amount of bug meat. I obviously don’t need another DS3, however, I interpret this as a clue. If #3 is in the sewer, then DS2 could be lurking nearby, which means - it’s just a matter of time DS2.

so MamaTiger, did it work? I get a lot of dwarf scrolls from the slime in the secret woods. Do oyu have the robber ring? That makes the monsters cough up more stuff.

I got mine in the secret forest.

Ok, so far I have not had any luck with the item code naming strategy. I bought 2 cows and tried using 3 different item codes and square brackets. I think this has been ‘fixed’ in an update because the brackets don’t even show when Marnie says the name back to me. I’m going to try spending more time in sewers and secret forest. I did not know about the robber ring! Where can I get that?

Go to floor 50 in the mines, and progress through to level 60. Use your hoe on every single tillable spot of sand. Blue slimes, ghosts, soot sprites, and tilling the soil in the mines all have a chance to drop the dwarf scroll 2. Repeat until you get it. I was frustrated and went looking on where to find it, and the one thing I -didnt- do this playthrough that I've done most others, was tilling soil in the mines to gather carrots n stuff. It took about 3 days of doing this and blowing a buncha salmon berries to get mine.

The reason to do floor 50-60~ is because a number of the levels in this area have a large amount of tillable spaces, particularly floor 53.

Shurenai, IT WORKED!!! I have hoed everything in those levels so many times but after I read your post I thought what the heck I’ll do 50-60 a bunch of times and see what happens. I went right to 50, and then found it in the sand in level 51. Ha! Thank you for your suggestion :)
