How to deal with slime?

I'm using lava katana and space boots, and consume roots splatter(+3 attack). But having a hard time dealing with them. Mainly because they can debuff you, making you walk like a snail, and better yet they come in groups, so all they have to do is jump around you and debuff you. Making it a death sentence. And because of how combat works, you can't swing your sword at every angle. Best of all, you die in 4 hits, and they don't even have a cool down timer, they take at least 3 hits to kill. So they can just jump around you in groups at every angle and debuff you, then just simply kill you in less then a second.
And no, slime rings requires 1000 slime kills, which is literally impossible without dying to these cheap, unbalanced deaths.

So how do y'all deal with these little ♥♥♥♥♥♥?

You'll get to the "1000 slimes slain" goal eventually if you go to the caves every night of every consequent day.Just explore,kill,collect.Don't think about that for now.As for maximum protection,various rings can vastly aid you in dealing lots of damage/health increase/critical attacks etc.Make sure to bring the algae you collect from fishing in oceans,rivers etc.Don't throw/sell these away.These have their uses as well.In addition to this you can try and cook homemade meals but you will need the kitchen upgrade for that.Check the wiki for which food is the best for gaining health.Luck can help a great deal as well.More luck lesser amounts of slimes and other monsters spawining on to you.The general rule of mining is to go on "a lucky day".More chances of better loot spawning.If you care about the 1000 slime kills go on an unlucky day,bring food with you and just slay slimes.If you care about looting go on a lucky day and focus on mining rock,special minerals and miscellaneous loot like rings etc.You can get these through mining and from fishing chests as well!Hope i helped you with these tips!Good luck and have fun!

I tend to find it easier to get'em from below (if attacking them from above or to the side they seem to hit me more and I seem to miss them more) and just attack them while slowly advancing 'til they hit a wall or something. It'll kind of stunlock them plus they won't jump at you if blocked by something like that, then just spam attack them 'til they are dead. I find a sword is good to use also. If you pay attention, you can tell when they are about to jump and can move away or right click to block'em with a sword.

I'm in my 3rd year and mining at the skull cavern, but I often find myself dying in 1 or 2 hits / dying to slime. Anything I can do to not die so easily?

Why not go back to the lower level mines (or the secret forest), and just kill easy slimes until you get the 1000 slimes killed, and collect your Slime Charmer ring? Or am I missing something about that in your post. (Sorry; it's 3am for me and I have a head cold.)

I tend to interrupt their attacks by attacking first.
Cornering them against a wall or rock also helps to finish them quicker.
Also, get the galaxy sword to max your dmg output.

Their are actually enemys that are far more dangerous, like the flying snakes or iridium bats.

First go to former mines till u get 1k slimes ring.

Secondly kite. Don't just kamikaze them, instead hit and retreat if they are too many. Using crit rings buff like jades' will help u a lot plus crits buff skills.

Also if u have slime's facility u can butcher 'em all leaving 2 for repopulate + visiting Secret Forest daily for aditional slimes.

And lastly bring plenty of food close to ur katana inventory slot for instant healing.

Tip: Getting the galaxy sword will really help until you get the charmer ring. You might say that it requires a Prismatic Shard and those are rare AF but...

Just put the 75th wallpaper (the pale green one) in there instead and don't tell anyone I said anything.

The item ID is the same as a Prismatic Shard just like wallpaper 108 has the same ID and can be used as a dino egg.

It's an exploit. It's a fairly well known and discussed one and I guess if the dev really had a problem with it'd be patched by now. So if you consider it a legal cheat or whatever is up to you I guess.
