This is the trade-off. You can have only buffs from one food at a time (not counting Coffee). So you have to choose which buffs you want to go with and if it's worth the time and expensive to collect the ingredients. Generally I go with Roots Platter too, because I don't need the buff from the Maple Bar. The Maple Bar for me is only good as a Loved gift for Sam. Otherwise i only make one to get the Sous-Chef achievement that unlocks the nice purple hat. LOL.
I take the Roots Platter plus a couple non-buff foods to the mines. Common Mushrooms are easy to get early game if you go with the Mushrooms in the farm's cave, and they restore a decent amount of energy and health for something that isn't a recipe. For a better non-buff food with a lot of Energy and Healthy replenish, I like Radish Salad or Blackberry Cobbler. You can get the recipe for the Radish Salad in the first year, but it requires both Oil and Vinegar so it can get expensive early game. The Blackberry Cobbler is less expensive to make, but you can't get the recipe until Fall of Year 2 and if you still need the gold, it's hard to pass up selling all those Blackberries once you get the Bear Knowledge perk.
