Giant Crop Myth -- Requirement to Water Every Day?

I keep reading this idea that there's a requirement to water mature cauliflower, melon, or pumpkins everyday after the crop is fully grown in order to get a chance to roll for a giant crop to occur.

I'm no so sure this is true. I've found other sources in the past that say no such thing, only that the crop has to be left in the ground ... and I've actually seen Youtube videos in which the player explicitly did NOT bother watering crops after growth in which they still got giant crops to form, and multiple times.

Could anyone else confirm -- this is a myth that's oft-repeated, even in the wiki, but not necessarily a fact?

In my experience the giant crops always popped up with the rest of them all at the same time, but to be perfectly honest I've never let them sit long as I tend to pluck them out of the ground asap

That much at least, is established -- there's a chance they'll pop up on the same day as everything else, especially if you have a large contiguous field planted, but there's definitely a continued chance with each passing day for any 3x3 mature crop pattern left in the ground to transform into a giant crop overnight. You don't have just one shot at it.

The question is ... do you have to continue watering those mature crops to get that chance? I think from the evidence of Youtube videos, we can already rule that out (it means that the wiki and many other sources need to be edited, manual watering is tedious work and I feel like almost everyone has been misled on the subject) ... but I'm curious now to know if it helps at all, whatsoever.

On further research, it looks like the wiki says that only the center crop needs to be watered. What explains the Youtube video and the examples of others just leaving them in the ground, though? Rainy days, maybe?
