Fishing Troubles - please help

Firstly, I was completing the river fishing bundle for the community center and went out to catch a shad. Easy right? It was raining, was fall, everything was set up correctly. but no shad...
I didn't think much of it. Just figured my bad luck was kicking in until just now when I get Jodi's dinner quest to bring a largemouth bass. I've been fishing all over the mountain lake and I can't get a single one. I've tried different areas, bait, and triple checked that I was doing it in the right weather, time, season, etc. I'm getting scared something is bugging up my game and I really don't want to lose all my progress or stunt my game entirely. Please please please help if you can.

... Well, the wiki says you catch it in the river, not the lake, so that might be the first problem?

^ No, Kermit was right; Largemouth Bass are caught in the Lake.

Oh, I misunderstood, thought he was looking for shad in the lake. :P

I'm pretty sure it's just luck...

They are both common fish but it's more likely down to RNG than a bug. My favourite spot for bass is immediately below and a little left of the mine entrance while a good place to catch shad is in front of Jodi's house.

Also, don't worry about getting Jodi's fish quickly. Once she has extended the offer, every night from then onward is bass night, until you enter her house with a bass. She waits upon your whim, as she should.
