Coop disconnects possible solution
OK, my friends and I play a lot of Stardew Valley and a new friend recently picked up the game. For some reason, whenever one of my friends hosted a farm we had ZERO disconnects, when my new friend started we would disconnect every couple minutes. We finally had enough and started testing different things to figure out why no one ever disconnected from one persons farm, but everyone disconnected from everyone else's farms.

Steam settings seemed to have been the issue. We tried a ton of things. Firewalls, computer settings, comparing hardware. After playing around with settings for a few hours we decided to try playing with steam settings. We narrowed it down to a few things.

Settings>Library then change "Display size for library interface elements" to "small."
Settings>Library enable "Low bandwidth mode" and "Low Performance Mode".

The third option we changed was Settings>Interface then turn off "Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views."

After changing all of these settings any of us can host a farm with zero disconnects, even after hours of play. If anyone tests these changes out, please report back and let us know if they helped you!

Too bad for you.
For us, we started a session and a day in the game couldn't end without a disconnection from the host. Both of us have tried restarting the game, restarting steam with no success...5 disconnections till we decided to look at this forum.
The solution seems a bit weird like changing the display size of the steam interface but we just edited all the settings as explained and we could play 5 hours without a single disconnection...

It's really weird that changing these settings works for some people but not others. I'm definitely glad it helped you Kakartha!

Oh, also you're welcome everyone! Thank you for letting us know if it is/is not working for you!

It's strange, your fix seemed to help me and my friend one day, but not the next. Closing down other applications that were running in the background also seemed to play a part. I left discord on though, but maybe that's causing a conflict? Still, for one glorious day your fix seemed to well, fix things! One step closer to a solution for me! Thank you!

my game suffered the same problem, until I updated the version of it and returned to normal.

That's really weird. I played just last night and ended up with the same issues. Did any of your settings get reset? I looked and my "low performance mode" got turned off, I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it.

dose not work on my end either (as the host) nothing but disconnects and reconnects every single time I host a game, even when I join a game it literally last for like 2 mins before Disconnect WHY CAN"T THIS GAME ONLINE WORK?!!!!!

Can't believe that worked (so far), game was unplayable on multiplayer before we tried this. What a wild solution we would never have figured out independently, so thank you!

If you and your friend is under the same network (router / switch / modem, etc), if you have the same public net IP address. You have to play together via 'Join LAN game', instead of just click on your friend's session in co-op menu. You need to figure out the intranet IP address of the hosting buddy (google to find out how to do that), and then type it in.

Joining through friend's session in co-op menu / steam will make your session go through internet, meaning instead of connecting directly to you hosting buddy, your connection packets needs to go out of your modem to your ISP and then come back to your modem. But ATT and other ISP's are having problems routing packets back to the sender, causing packet lost and disconnection.
