Stardew Vs My Time at Portia?
I'm trying to get into Stardew cuz I'm hyped for Animal Crossing. However every second I spend in Stardew I'm questioning why I don't just go back to My Time at Portia, which is a similar game I played awhile ago and really enjoyed.

From what I understand, the general consensus is that Stardew is the better game. How so? In my first few hours, so far, everything feels like a crappy version of My Time at Portia.

In terms of gameflow, Stardew Valley does a better job in my opinion, as it gives you pretty much free hand on what you want to do, while my time at portia pretty much forces you into the grind of operating an effective workshop to be competetive in the main quests. And many people find the SDV-Villagers more interesting, but i can't say that much about MTaP, as i didn't played it enough to tell something about that part.

But the gameplay is definitely interesting and the competetive part is something special amongst these type of games, so i'm looking forward to how the MTaP-gameplay develops in future games

It's funny, I tried My Time at Portia and found I didn't get on with it because I'd played SV first and quite frankly, My Time at Portia bored me. If we all liked the same things the world would be a worse place.

Maybe you should stick to what you like. Our limited spare time is too precious to be playing something you're not that fussed on. Especially when you've got a preferable alternative.

I agree with Maya. I love the freedom SDV has. It allows me to play the game my own way. (I also played SDV before Portia btw) I should probably go back and check out Portia again to see how much character development has improved, because I didn't find myself invested in the characters previously.

I found Portia more, a whole lot more. More map, more stations, more things to do. But kind of also more linear. With SV you can more decide if you want to fish vs forage vs mine vs farm vs ranch. You do need to a little bit of everything but you can head in different directions. The interactions in Portia I also found less interesting, there was not as much character development so the characters seemed shallower.

You can stall both games - MTaP by not completing main missions until you want to and SDV by just doing what you want and ignoring the other NPCs. Having played both (for way too many hours!) I find them very different. I enjoy them equally.

Stardew Valley : More focus on farming, less battle against the clock, less redundant cutscenes, simpler skill progression, less tedious artifact hunting, more Zelda like combat.

My Time At Portia: More interactive socialization (dueling, dating minigames) less punishing death /fatigue penalties from what I remember, more elaborate crafting, tighter deadlines but also adjustable time scaling. Furniture actually gives Stat boosts, and relationships give unique discounts. Audio dialogue is more immersive though it does get repetitive after a while.
