My mods appear to be crashing a host's game
I mostly play single-player, with mods - game-changing mods, such as a cheat menu and Longevity off the top of my head. I recently joined a friend's game and, to my surprise, saw that all my mods still worked, despite my friend launching a vanilla game. I could see Longevity's price list and I had an information mod that allowed me to see stats of items. However, the most shocking thing was that my cheat mod still worked. I could boost my speed to a ridiculous level, give myself infinite stamina, and change everybody's luck. This was not only on my side; everyone could see me zooming around.

This strikes me as a bug, since I was not the host. Furthermore, the game would crash for everybody when I entered town. This crash happened twice before I backed up my mods folder to my desktop and deleted the folder from my Stardew Valley folder. After that, we went through a day with no issues.

A) This strikes me as really buggy/exploit-y. I didn't expect to be able to join a game and have my mods work when nobody else had mods installed.

B) Is there a way for me to turn off my mods without deleting them from my SV folder? What I have now (just moving my mods folder in and out of my SV folder with a backup on my desktop) works okay, but is kind of clunky at best.

I wouldn't call mods working in multiplayer despite the host not having them "exploit-y"... since generally, you can only join a friend's game. It's like playing poker with friends, but hiding aces up your sleeve. If your friends want a good clean game, then you're a jerk if you cheat, but cheating and exploiting aren't really the same thing. Exploiting is more like taking advantage of a bug or a mistake in the game to gain an unfair advantage, and tends to be more of a thing in MMO's and other online games where saying "I installed a cheat mod" in chat could get you banned from servers... if that makes sense.

TL:DR; You're probably playing with your friends. It's only cheating/exploiting/whatever if they don't want you using it.

As far as the crashing, that tends to be a risk when you've got more/less/other mods than the people you're playing with. And since there's no official modding support for the game at this point (as in, no in-game menu for mods), to my knowledge, there's no way to easily turn them on and off without moving/renaming the folder each time.

Ah, whoops! I didn't know that; I thought you had the ability to potentially join strangers' games.
And it turns out that I'm an idiot; I forgot you can launch the .exe from the Stardew Valley folder and it'll run a version of the game without mods. Running through Steam will then use mods normally. No faff required.
