So I made a new save file yesterday for fun and started fishing again but I think maybe there might be something wrong with the code for the fish quality? Cause I'm only level 2 in fishing and every fish I've caught since I started fishing has been gold or silver star and I even caught two irridium quality fish *Herring and Sardine* In my other save files I didn't start catching gold until like level 4-5ish and even then it wasn't nearly as frequent as it is right now. Did they change the qualifications for fish quality or something?

You get Iridium quality fish when you make a perfect catch regardless of level or what the quality would've been otherwise.

Not quite true, you get iridium quality fish when you perfect catch a gold quality fish.

If I'm not mistaken the depth of the water that your cast lands in can also increase the quality of any fish you catch. The darker tinted spots are considered deeper and it's generally a better idea to aim for those areas if your cast can reach. If you're hitting max on your casts and getting perfect catches you can be catching gold and iridium fish really early on.

At some point the fishing system definitely got a rework. I bought this game on release and never once caught a single iridium fish, and that save file has all my skills maxed out at 10 with all the best possible tools.

Not that I mind. It's just different.

Iridium quality fish were added in 1.4. Perfect catch now raises the star level of silver and gold star fish by one.
