Stuck at lv. 8 Foraging, even checked experience

So I've spent the last three hours or so with a whole lot of math done and a page full of tally marks that represent trees. When I finished, even doing some extra just in case, I was still level 8. I thought, this is odd, so I looked up how to check my experience points. Using: https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/48us1o/tutorial_moving_your_buildings_via_save_file/
I was able to find my save and what I believed to be my experience. Well for level 9 you needed 10,000, and I had over 11,000! Either some how it said 100,000, you need more than normal experience for foraging, or maybe the guide screwed me up somehow. I don't know at this point and I hope someone can help me.

I had the same problem, I think. I was chopping tons of trees and was growing exclusively forage, harvesting a field of 150+ forage crops, and after a full season still didn't level up. I ended up resetting my skill perks in the sewers, and I managed to level up foraging a few days later.

You can also just manually change your skill to level 9 by editing your save file to see if that would help? It's easy to do, but I'd recommend checking an online guide rather than listening to me. It's as easy as changing an 8 to a 9 then hitting "Save".
