I miss mods for the game because it is an easy game to program but a steam mods download tool is missing

Here, Splattergutz, this page has instructions on setting the game's Launch options to have it start Smapi up and allow achievements when you run the game from Steam.

If it takes you 5 hours to figure out how to install 2 mods, then mods are not for you. It literally takes a couple of minutes.

Some of the comments above are simply indicative of the of types of people you have to deal with on Steam.
I'm not entering into a troll war with morons.

I use heaps of mods in games and not one of those games was as complex or as cumbersome to install the mods as this one.

To the OP, It would be much simpler and user friendly if there was a steam workshop for this game.

And it is a fair question to ask, why is there not a Steam Workshop for this game????

If a couple of people making fun of your ineptitude on the internet triggers you so hard that you immediately become hostile towards them, I think it's time to take some time off and self reflect on your mental fortitude. In plain terms: grow a thicker skin kid. Or stop posting things on the Internet.

Here's a good starting point: On the internet, you're not obligated to interact with anybody who says anything to you! I know, crazy right? It's a wonderful thing, you should definitely give it a try.

What two mods for this game could take more that 2 minutes to install? I'm really curious since It's literally drag and drop.

Also, there are legitimate concerns about using Steam Workshop not to mention the history/culture of modding going against the mega-corps.

Automate is essential. I don't know how I used to play without it.

...says the person who can't figure out something as straightforward as "unzip the file into the mods folder"....

You don't address the crucial factor! The files I downloaded were transferred across as VLC media files.

Why not read what people write before you type your rubbish!

But morons can't read properly.

But what do you do once you have that mod?

I've two mods, CJB cheats and NPC locations. With the CJB cheats mod I only use the one hit kill and harvest with scythe and I believe the NPC locations should be part of the game anyway.

I'm only half way through Fall of year 2 and I already have over 1,000,000g which sounds good but, what do I do now?

I feel it's the downside of the game. Like, what do I do now, I don't need to mine any more or fish either. I guess I can go and romance some poor NPC but I feel that'll get very old very fast.

Oof, someone is salty.

The files cannot have been "transferred across" as VLC files; that is not how things work. -Maybe- you set VLC to recognize .xml files, but that isn't really a modder or community issue now is it? The process to install both of those mods are as straight forward as it can come.

As to the "what to do now?" question; literally whatever you like, thats the glory of the game. You choose what you want to do. Have you completed the community center? The Skull Cavern? The collections? NPC relationships? Do you have the 10,000,000g clock? the Obelisks? Junimo Huts? Found all the notes and secrets? All the achievements? Has grandpa graded your farm? Do you have the statue of fortune? Return Scepter? Collected all the Rarecrows?

Also, this is your first playthrough?

Dunno where the hell you got it, then, because I've never seen one in that format nor heard of the format.

From the Stardew Valley wiki page is where I found the download page for Smapi.

@Savarast why would anyone lie about the format of files!

I'm not saying you are lying, but you are not understanding -why- the issue occurred. This is a "PEBCAK" issue. Just for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles I downloaded the files as they are on the wiki. The only file extensions used are .json, .pdb, and .dll . These files are not .vlc files and are not recognized by VLC by default (I use VLC).

I don't care how they downloaded on your PC they didn't do that on mine!
And, except for media files, they're the only files I've downloaded that have turned into VLC files.

So your claims that it's an easy straight forward procedure are.............??? Obviously it's not easy for everyone!

I've attempted to address the OP's question.

Splattergutz Dec 23, 2019 @ 5:58pm
I also suggest anyone who wishes to buy this game, and may want to use mods, checks the Stardew Valley wiki to see if they feel it's a simple procedure to download mods.

Nulien Dec 24, 2019 @ 2:44am
The only possible way those files could be recognized as VLC media files is if you have those file extensions set to be recognized as VLC files. That's the only way... and VLC will not do that by default (I use VLC and had no such issues). So the problem has to do with something you did in the past, or that some other program you've used did (I have no idea what that could be though).

I dunno man, it's pretty difficult to type that info into Google, I think there should be steam workshop support for the wiki too....

please share the link of exactly where you downloaded these files from. Files do not change extensions magically between destinations.

if the process isn't easy for you, don't use mods. If you want to use mods, learn how to mod. Simple and straight-forward.

Ultimately steam workshop is a poor alternative to existing systems in place.
