I miss mods for the game because it is an easy game to program but a steam mods download tool is missing

You just download smapi and use its installer. Then download the mod you want and drag it into the mods folder.

Sure but it's fair to say the update process is a pain then

1º: Install the base in the game folder ->https://smapi.io/
2º: Access -> https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/

Smapi spits out links for you to update out of date mods. It couldn't be easier.

I have never used mods, are they really useful to the game?

Absolutely. There are tons of mods ranging from cosmetic, like different villager outfits or texture packs, to quality of life mods like UI Info Suite (after using that one, you'll likely never want to play without it), to content additions like SDV Expanded, to various cheat mods like the CJB mods.

I'd definitely suggest playing 5 years into the game without them before turning to the dark side of Mods. The game is amazing on its own without mods, but on later playthroughs some of the mods really give the game an even longer lease on life. Mods can also be great for fixing oddities in the game code, like how some artifacts are exceptionally hard to get due to a coding hiccup.

I think its funny that you say the game is easy to code for, yet you think implementing the mods is a hassle? Trust me, spend the 5 minutes it takes to learn the modding method. Its literally as easy as the above posts outline. Back in the day modding was -so- much more involved than it is today.

I just got into this game this month. Wrapping up my initial vanilla play through and I have to say I would really support Steam Workshop for this. Not that the Nexus is a problem at all, but having everything all in one application is just a time saver.

I've just been through the process of installing mods.

It was grind to say the least. And I only wanted two mods!

As a consequence I now play the game directly through Smapi and not through steam. I lose steam achievements, whatever they might be.

It took me approx. 5 hours to get two mods and not able to play through steam if I want to use them and I only downloaded Smappi and not the content manager part.

The files, even after unzipping, would all download as VLC media files. To say it's frustrating is an understatement.

5 hours?! I don't know how that happened, but when I got a new computer and reinstalled the game, it probably took me 10 minutes at the most to install Smapi + 6 mods.

Edit: And that includes configuring the Steam settings to allow achievements too.
