Controls aren't very intuitive..
Its really hard to move around in the PC version of this game.. I feel like the movement should be click-based but its WASD and that makes it difficult to get around and use tools. Does anyone have issue with this? Its a shame this game is a lot easier to use on my phone and cheaper to buy. You just have to press where you want to go or use a tool and it does it, the PC version of this game you have to walk up to where you want to use a tool and point right in the direction you want to use it. In the mobile version it switches between tools depending on what you select. Its way easier and more intuitive. Disappointing I really like this game but the learning curve is going to take time..

Update:

It was a learning curve.

Sounds like your issue is merely adjusting from the mobile version? I've only played on PC so it feels natural. You went from writing with your left hand to your right essentially (or vice versa) and are having a hard time.

This exactly. Pretty much all my games--I'm almost entirely a PC gamer--use WASD movement. No offense, OP, but this is more a "you aren't use to PC games" problem than it is a problem with SDV.

i agree with you, would be much better to me if the character simply followed my mouse cursor when holding down mouse button like many other games

exact opposite over here, almost all my games the character follow the mouse cursor to get around other than just a few of the games that i own.

Must be the difference in the games that we play.

Do you play mostly Diablo-like games?
For arpg's, yes. torchlight, grimdawn, etc. This game would benefit from an optional control system like those have IMO.

Okay but, this is PC. You're complaining on a forum about the PC version of the game, that the PC controls are inferior. Think about that for a moment. Also, if mobile is SO much better, why bother playing on PC anyway? Get a refund then. Won't be missed.

A lot of PC games have the option to click-to-move yes. A massive majority dont however, they use a form of WASD or arrow keys. Like you said already, its the choice of games you play.

Maybe a controller would help, OP? Control stick to walk around, and a mouse pointer for precision, if you prefer.

Otherwise, you might be best to sticking with mobile - I don't think the click-and-hold style is coming to PC.

I've played both types and for me the WASD is by far the best. Horses for courses but the vast majority of games I play on PC are WASD.
I find it impossible to fish on the mobile version but the skull cavern is made much easier as the mobile decides the timing of your swings in combat and automatically changes tools so you don't have to make a decision or take a risk regarding weapon/pick. To me that is detrimental to the game as it takes a layer of skill away.

I hope the OP does still find some enjoyment from the PC version but I wouldn't appreciate it if it became more like the mobile.

I think the advice regarding controller is good.

I've played on console, PC, and mobile. I feel the opposite. Mobile is so hard to get used to. its on a small screen which doesn't give it much room for the HUD and then fishing is just impossible for me on mobile especially since i have fat fingers. I didn't like the controls either. It didn't feel right. Thankfully I got my 7 bucks back for the mobile game.

Different strokes I guess, but I wouldn't say its easier, just different. The controls are like that simply because the PC configuration wouldn't work and they can't assume everybody on mobile has a controller.

Wait... are you using your mouse?? You do not have to "point right in the direction" you just have to be in 1 square distance of what you want to interract with. You can interract with the 8 squares sorounding you.

For the most part that's correct, but for single tile tools like the hoe or axe the game tends to default to the direction your character is facing.

Hmm no it's not, not true at all actually. I can cut 7 trees or mine 7 stones without ever pressing any key. Just put the mouse on the tile you want to interract with and click. Your character will follow the mouse. [/quote]

Yes, I'm aware of how to do it, the problem is it doesn't always work consistently. I've tested it facing away from trees, large stumps and crops, some of the time they'd turn around, and other times they'd attack the way they're facing, didn't matter where I clicked.

Point and click interactions work fine, its just tools that seem to have this issue. Clicking out of range seems to cause it, so its just a hunch but there may be an issue with changing from long range to short to where the game doesn't switch over, possibly intentionally to prevent accidentally changing direction.
