Fishing direction up/down or left/right test results
Either I cant find this info at all or I dont know how to look it up. Whatever it is, I really wanted to know if it matters for the speed at which side you cast your rod while fishing (north/south or west/east). Now I dont know why but I believe I have read at some point in the past somewhere that if you cast up/down that its supposed to be faster than left/right?

In any case, I recorded footage of the act, casting and picking up south and casting and picking up left. Test was done at fishing lvl 6, range at max with a deviation of roughly 5% of the bar. I counted the frames manually and the results should be around this:

down:
cast = 49 frames
pickup = 57 frames

total 106 frames

left:
cast = 22 frames
pickup = 57 frames

total 79 frames

Now clearly the results speak for themselves. However it may differ very slightly if you test it yourself depending on circumstances. But still, it looks like the opposite is true, casting to the left should be vastly superior than to down? I have no idea why I read in the past that you should cast up or down instead of left or right. Because it doesnt seem to be true, at least in 1.4. Maybe this was different pre-1.4?

Might require more testing, because I swear fishing downward seems faster - my fish seems to stay in the air longer when I cast off to the side and manage to catch it. When I cast down, it yanks it out and plops it into my hands. When I cast off to the side, it seems to arc through the air before landing.

Might be random, or luck-based, though? I haven't really tested, but memory tells me the opposite is true.

Yeah but when you cast your rod to the side it lands significanly faster compared to the cast to down/up. Maybe its just balanced around the fact and maybe its just the "feel" that is false. I too had the impression that the pickup of the fish is slower from side-fishing. But when I actually test it the time gained is higher.
