Audio not working!! (and I've tried multiple solutions, read description)

I used to play this game all the time, but I stopped for a while. I never had an issue with the audio back then. But now I decided to play again because of the multiplayer update, and I can't get my audio to work at all.
I've changed nothing about my speaker setup/computer/etc. Everything is exactly the same as it was when I used to play this game. And my speskers work just fine with everything else, Stardew Valley seems to be the only problem.
I tried reconfiguring my speakers and I made sure it's set up for stereo. Everything is fine there.
I also restarted Steam and restarted my computer.
And, of course, I made sure the game itself wasn't muted and everything in the in-game settings is a-ok for audio.
And I don't have any mods.
I miss the cute music, it's really lame playing the game with no sound. :(

I've been struggling with this in every play session as well -- all audio just cuts out after a while, and it really takes away from the experience. Have you had any luck with fixing it?

That's not so much a bug as the game being "dumb". It typically happens if you stay in the same area too long. Like, the outside music tends to last a few hours, so if you don't leave your farm until like 2pm, the music might break at 12pm. Or if you're chopping down the forest from noon until midnight, when the music ends it usually won't refresh until you leave the area.

they're talking about all the audio cutting out entirely. not just the music deciding not to refresh until 3 hours have passed.

@audio problems - i would suggest using a virtual audio suite to set up and assign a dedicated channel to stardew valley audio outputs directly to your device, and see if that solves it for you. not all sound software works well together, using a program that specializes in this type of organization can fix it for you. many of these programs are open source and free, you basically just need to select the one you want.
