As for that event, if I recall correctly, I chose to lie and say that I dropped it, and she thanked me for being honest (pffft) and Sam said he'll clean it.
As for Sam, he's either a teenager or a very young and immature adult, both of which require a bit of tough love to straighten them out. And as Nulien has said, Jodi -really- does pamper them outside of asking them to take care of themselves. I mean, have you looked in Sam's room? It's loaded with things that a real strict parent would never allow in the house. Same with Vincent, they both don't lack for things to do because their mother has spoiled them to a degree. I don't think she's mean at all, she's just a parent.
