Everyone shares money, and I think the money-related perks IF you use the sell bin. (For example, if one person takes Geologist, and one takes Gemologist, the Geologist will get the sell bonus if they use the bin, but not from selling to Clint.)
Due to sharing money, and not being able to "lock" your items away, it's recommended to only play with people you like and trust, and are able to communicate with. There have been so, so many complaints on here about:
- I was saving up money to buy seeds at the start of Fall, and on the last day of Summer, my friend spent all the money on coal!
- I had saved up 10 iron bars to make lightning rods, and my friend stole them all to make crab pots! Now lightning is killing all my crops!!!
Communication is key.
Time doesn't pause while fishing, so fishing in multiplayer is typically worse money than singleplayer. The host can pause the game by opening the chatbox and typing /pause. This lets players run to the bathroom, watch a cutscene without worry of missing an event or passing out, etc.
There's typically two popular playstyles:
1. Place all the cabins together, and work together. Maybe have one player water all the crops, and the other go foraging, rather than 2 people watering then 2 foraging. Assign "chores"; one does crops, one checks greenhouse/kegs/jars, one checks animals, etc. Players typically assign a role, such as "I'm kinda laggy, so he can upgrade his pickaxe first - I die too much in the mines." or "I HATE fishing - but he loves it, so he can upgrade his fishing rod since I know he'll pay it off."
2. Have a "versus" farm, where the 2-4 players place their cabins at opposite ends of the farm. They still share money and resources, but they basically get their own say in what that corner/half of the farm looks like. Is it cute and have easy to navigate paths for your horse? Is it a MASSIVE field of crops, with no paths at all?
Alright.
Thanks.
Last question- does it properly work? While I don't expect a technical masterpiece from a beta feature, something that say, crashes every hour or so is a deal breaker.
Because the multipayer is the main seller for me. I will be playing with an online friend of 5 years, and a working co-op feature is a huge selling point for us.
If it's still buggy I would probably just wishlist this and buy this next update, maybe on Winter Sale.
Thanks again.
It does have bugs and glitches, but it's not as catastrophic as some would make it out to be. Personally i've had a fantastic time in multiplayer, and i've only crashed once due to connection issues not related to the game. A couple events have caused crashing for everyone who does it, but they aren't mandatory (talking about the now-infamous cave carrot scene). Overall, it's a really fun way to spend a couple hours with a friend, and any issues that the beta does have will defnitely be fixed after the full release
Off the top of my head, there's been 3 other crashes: selling cranberries to Pierre, talking to Marlin during any holiday event, or the winter ice fishing festival. All 3 have been fixed, and now there's the cave carrot glitch.
There's still going to be random crashes, but most people experience the same problem. One instance of "this is why there's a beta": Someone rode their horse, on a rainy day, into a cutscene that has the player on foot and on a normal day. The game was able to fix it if it was raining, or the player was on their horse, but having the player do both confused it and crashed the game.
Otherwise, it's fairly stable. I think the full release should be done by the end of August at the latest, though some are predicting July 25th or so. There's no real way to know, but the last beta didn't take very long... but this beta has more problems, due to multiplayer.
